what are u using the verm for? coarse verm is supposed to be for substrate and the finer stuff is used for casing (well thats what ive been told, could be wrong) either way i dont think it makes much diffrence anyway

Fine grade verm is idea lfor substrates and the ramsey seal because it can holdmore moisture - the thick grade makes great casings

You can sometimes get a bad bag, I've seen that happen where it's almost all dust. Dust is bad, it compacts and lets no mycelium get through and makes a big mess. On the other hand, chunks that are too large leave too many airspaces and not enough substrate. You might want to sift it, get rid of that dust which is probably not good to have floating around anyways. Grover

Uhh, you want a casing to hold as much water as possible as well...not just substrates. I don't think chunky verm is useful for much of anything, at least the largest chunks Grover

until about a week ago i had never even seen or heard of the fine verm. until a friend gave me a ziplock baggie of it when i told him i was low. i was planning on using it for the 50/50 casing of my lipas when they grow, still using my original large verm for substarte. bluemeanie, is your post based on experience? if so i will do the opposite of my plans and do hat you say.

I like the coarse for doing casings. Better aeration.

Well, I suppose that fine grade verm would be better for casings as it hold more water - As Puscle once told me, if you get a cup of fine grade and a cup of thick grade verm and add half a cup of water, you will see the results and the difference... Sorry Criptik, I didnt mean to pay you out or anything...
