Ok, I think I understand what you mean. However, you do not think that even here the degree of the feeling towards beauty appreciation of the “mind”/intellect you have is based on some internal reference that your brain instinctively checks against? I presume the reference might be influenced through upbringing and probably will change (fine-tune?) through our lives. However, I do not think that we have the willpower to force it to change, if you understand what I mean.

Otherwise we both meant different types of the beauty. I would think that both complement each other.

i thought you were going more towards the fact that genes is by and by a more lucrative choice to have dependence on, then any of the above, because it's what was studied. i mean, all of the above are true, but the genes thing to me, seems so shallow... but if you were just talking about facial symmetry being "good looking" well, i'd have to agree with you there; and yes looks are obviously important. it's a lie to say otherwise.

but is it equally important? i dunno, for alot of people it isn't.

I started with the face features, but as it looks like it evolved to more general terms. Well I presume, preference of look over intellect and vice versa is dictated by our internal reference and it will most likely vary a lot. However I would guess that we all have some sort of "soft" min/(max) limits on both parameters.


Let’s take an extreme example:

Let say there is the most gorgeous person (making it general for other readers) that you ever meet, however that person have at the same time the worst retardation there is. Any attempt of speech or movement will reveal the retardation.

On the other hand you meet a very bright person online/over phone, you have the most incredible discussions with that person. However, when you meet you discover that the person is the most hideous person in the world. The ugliness is so overpowering that you just through up every time you look. The look is so repulsive that though alone will make you puke again.

Now I would say both examples are not very much appealing.

well, it's clear that the nicer the person looks the more likely they are to have sex... does that mean that they are a good partner that you'd want to be with for longer then a fling?

Of course that the more pretty people are not necessarily nicer. I have a one personal experience of that. What I just meant is that even if we are biased either towards looks or intellect, there still will most likely be a sort of minimum “requirement“ on the other less important factor.

I presume why the physically appealing persons may have some advantage at the beginning is since we do make an early assessment that is based on the looks.

well, yeah. we see things more immediately then anything else, when there is an attractive person. plus, as the saying goes seeing is believing. seeing one thing as "beautiful" makes it easier to "see" everything else, because that's where are brain makes it's first impression... the belief of what one sees is usually almost always stronger then what one picks up after actually meeting the person.

hence your "minimum requirement" argument, i presume.

Well I think the minimum requirement holds even for people who are biased towards intellect as well. That’s why I put up the other extreme example. No matter how much intellectual the potential partner is, if you do not find ANY physical attraction it will most likely not work in the long run.

This thread should just be re done.

The first post should state the rules of posting in said thread, which I'm sure everyone can agree upon after some discussion. No wining about girls not posting pictures, All pictures posted must contain a female shroomery member, and be posted by that member, etc.

This thread is a gift. Personally, I think the female figure is art, and letting the Shroomery girls display it in a thread is something everyone wants. I just think it can be done better.
