Have you tried to do calculus when drunk? It is both challenging and fun at the same time.

I used to do some research after a visit in a bar in a semi drunk/foggy state. A really good time (for me) to get some “out of the box” ideas.

i could use some help on a problem, actually. it's not so much the calculus part as the algebra part, which is strange for me. i think i've just been working at it for too long.

lim    -√(1+t)-1
t->0      t√(1+t)

i know i need to rationalize the numerator, but my problem is multiplying out the denominator when i go to do that for some reason. i dunno what's up with my arithmetic lately.

do i just need to use my limit laws? like i said, i think i've just been working too long tonight.

Did one very quick check, so not 100%, but the first one should be -1/2 and the second i got -1/0, so going to infinity?

Will double check at home and take a picture of the solutions.

the answer is -1/2, yes. but, i need to know the steps to get there. knowing the answer does me no good (i can look it up in the back of the book, and Wolfram Alpha confirms it) if i don't know how to do it. i will be stuck if i run in to another problem like this in the future, or with my luck, on a test. it doesn't help that i'm extremely dyslexic, either.

pictures of it worked out with be really helpful. each step illustrated would be even better, this includes intermediate steps.

I will just nice it up and upload the picture. But what is answer to the second task? I got it to -1/0 so it goes to minus infinity. Solved it with similar method as the first task.

the directions are, "Evaluate the limit, if it exists." this book is actually super vague sometimes and unfortunately, the examples the teacher does in class are the same ones as in the book. so while my notes are somewhat helpful, it only gives me one really basic example to reference.

Did you apply L'hopital's rule?
I think that's what has to go down. I tried plugging in the limit and the top and bottom each goes to zero.
That's when L'hopital's rule comes in.
