ADD/ADHD meds *Updated*
    #18695938 -

So I've been prescribed to ADD medication since the second grade. I'm sickened by the fact I will never be the same again, because the long term side effects I've experienced from these meds. I used to be such an outgoing person, had so much more drive, motivation, etc. Now it has come to the point where I'm just a complete bum without amps.

I've decided I'm going to really try hard to stay off these meds forever. I stayed off them for an entire year, last year and my life just crumbled. I can't let this happen again, I want to move forward. I'm going to try and find programs that will pay for therapy and help. Today I plan on giving the rest of my bottle away before I change my mind, because the truth is I don't fucking need them.

Anyone here struggle getting off amps? I'm asking for help and support .

UPDATE:

I wasn't counting but seems it's been 21 days. Caved today and took a 75mg vyvanse I found lying in my room, was pretty tired from a long day of drinking and smoking, didn't want another day at work to be a complete drag...

Once again I'm motivated, awake, and alert; I feel so much more clear headed. It sucks how attached I am to this damn medication, without it I don't have the motivation or drive to tackle my ADD using other methods. I turned into a complete bum again the passed 21 days.

This is sorta a rant, and just to remind myself how evil this drug is. I have become completely reliant on it, not only that but there has undoubtedly been negative long term side effects. Good thing is I will no longer have any readily available to take, so I really have to get serious if I want to rid myself of amps.

Thanks for some of the suggestions guys. I really want to give nootropics a try, so if you have any knowledge on them please enlighten me. Looks like DMAE is getting pretty popular, has me curious :strokebeard:.

Well this is a shameful bump, anyone else out there strugglin?

You used to be outgoing and have tons of motivation back in first grade? :hmm:

Sounds like you're trying to blame the meds for what very well may be your own personal problem with motivation. I find it really hard to believe that you had a ton of motivation in first grade, but then these meds took that away from you (especially since lack of focus and motivation is likely why you were prescribed these meds in the first place).

I wish you luck in getting off the meds, but don't expect that to solve all your problems. Just like taking meds isn't a solution, getting off them isn't either. The meds might be part of your problem but there are some underlying mental health issues here that need to be addressed so therapy is a good idea provided you can find a good therapist.

OP, get on some piracetam or something like that with choline and fish oil supplements and work on your diet.

Also consider the possibility that the meds might actually just make your life better, even if they are stigmatized and abusable. I personally don't think I'd be able to get a good education without them. If you have problems with your dosing regimen (and I know how that is), there are people who can help you with that.

No but throughout middle school, and beginning of high school. Long term side affects didn't kick in until years after taking them daily. I didn't even notice them until I started taking really long breaks from the meds.

Yes motivation and all that isn't entirely directly related to drug use, but Joie, you can't tell me that taking amps for 13 years of my life hasn't done any damage.

I think for the time being I will move onto nootropics. Relying on a drug is just so shitty. I don't ever want to have to rely on anything but food and water.

I was prescribed ritalin then adderal for over 10 years from kindergarten to 11th grade. I hated them since they turned me into a zombie. It was hard at first once I got taken off them but after a couple months I got a lot better. But it wasn't hard at all for me to stay away from them since I hated them since the day I got prescribed them.

mind numbing socially-devalued meaningless work, really make me zombified, so drugs aren't the catalyst there.

I mean zombie as in when I was off them I would be extremely hyper and outgoing and when on them I would just keep to myself and get pissed off at everyone.

maybe because (now this is just speculation) you were trying to concentrate and people & things just pissed you off, in general, anyways; but you were never trying to focus before so you never noticed?

My position exactly..I never liked the meds, I do my best to avoid taking them whenever I'm out with friends or even in public. I keep myself at home, or avoid all social interaction at school when I'm on them.

This is true. I'm not trying to blame all my mental disabilities on the drug.

but... I think majority of people who have been taking them as long as I have, can agree, ADD/ADHD meds are fucked.

yeah, they are. they should be used solely for purposes of increases work output and productivity, and not for abjectly long periods of time. meaning using them for means of functioning "normally" is out of the question.

Another thing to consider, IMO/E, the negative effects short and long term, out weigh the positive ones.

I almost died because of vasoconstriciton the other night... yeah 25c had something to do with it. It's scary knowing a vyvanse binge can cause vasoconstriction alone, I never want to go through anything like that again.

The Truth of this whole matter is, I should not have to rely on medication to live a happy productive life style. So why should I continue to be ignorant. I'm NOT suggesting the medication should be banned. It has negatively effected my life. I want to be a happy person, and gain willpower, motivation, do better with myself, and know I'm capable.

-side note, Akira, I know we had a couple fall outs when I first joined. I'd just like to put out there, you have been one of my favorite posters within the passed several months... Haha you're a smart dude, I love hearing what you've had to say lately.
