I don't have a problem with the laws or the gun thing or any of that.

Growing & consuming shrooms... check.
Drinking lots of sakau (kava).. check.
Smoking weed... check (but haven't grown any here... yet).
Surfing, fishing, diving, snorkelling, hiking, weekends on uninhabited atolls, waterfalls... check.

Been here for the last two years - its a great lifestyle once you get the hang of it. There isn't enough of a drug problem to concern anyone (including the cops). Even though its an independent sovereign nation, the US supports this country financially (approx $100m per year - about a third of national GDP), so if you're American you may as well get your money's worth.

If anyone ever visits this place, PM me and I'll give you directions to my outdoor shroom patches (handily located near a tourist site, for your convenience).

here's the thing about Eastern Kentucky...

perfect weather. no extremes.

green green green. very lush vegetation. you find land that hasn't been stripped, and it's probably some of the healthiest soil in the country.

extremely dense woods with difficult to access crevices and gorges, would make invasion by an outside force very difficult for a number of reasons.

in certain parts, the energetic protection (think ley lines, electromagnetism, etc.) is perfect. these areas would be potential energetic sanctuaries for wizards looking to ride out disturbances in the force.

some might go so far as to call it the true god's country. it's a special place and it needs to be kept under the radar. you don't talk about fight club...

that being said, the major drawback to living in such a place is all the unevolved rednecks that you'll be sharing it with. some of those unevolved rednecks become cops...you get the picture.

the local politics are all run by mostly conservative good ole boys. it's not a place where open minded, free-spirited types can come and let their freak flag fly, at least not yet...

if you're referring to a 'whistle blower' then understand that there's a
path that has to be followed, you cant just leak info to the press and call
yourself a whistle blower, if that were the case then national security

I think the government is full of butt monkeys that act in their own
interests, that often times being wealth, power and reelection and while
everyone claims the patriot act has stripped is of some rights, it hasnt,

already illegal to blow up building that didnt belong to you or that you
were not contracted by the owners to demolish, it was already illegal to

violated, it does happen and people sue over it and many become wealthy
because of it. even the detainees in guantanamo have been to trial and they
arent US citizens and were not on US soil, many never were and were not
when they committed their acts against the US so event they have rights

What species (out of curiousity)? Is it a native, or did you make yourself a nice little outdoor grow of some sort?

Damn, I wish I could go do something like that. Sounds perfect to me, minus the water shortages, that could be a problem. My responsibilities have come to root me in place though, so probably not in this lifetime. Plus, where I'm at would be a great place to be when/if another dark age sets in.

That's another reason I couldn't go there I think though, when WWIII breaks out, or some hyper-radical local group of ethnic purists comes to power, you're basically unprotected. I doubt the U.S. govt would do too much to protect radical expatriates.

If you're paranoid, then I would consider that any major change in the US would shake the entire planet. There would be nowhere to run for a long time

The specie would probably survive but it would be hard times. Jumping ship and giving up on America is giving up on a brighter future for all nations, if our military did fall the whole modern way of life would be devastated by the wars which would follow.

If there's something wrong, people need to point it out and try to fix it not run away.

Voting between corrupt politician A and B doesn't do much for anyone, not that everyone can really do a lot to change things for the better but we influence those around us at the least and sending out the message "the ships burning everyone jump in the water!" doesn't help.
