FBI international investigation

I did a search and it seems as if the FBI has become the primary investigator in a lot of these bombings in Iraq. When did this happen? It seems to me that the FBI used to act as a consultant in these matters when their expertise was needed. Maybe they did this all along and I remember it all wrong. Or maybe I'm misinterpretting these stories.
Wasn't the FBI responsible for investigating crimes that fell within the borders of the U.S.A.?

It seemed odd to me as well when i heard it on the radio this morning that FBI was investigating the bombings of the U.N, compound and they didn't mention that they were acting as consultants. It is curious.

Why is it curious? They are the best resource we have for this kind of thing. The CIA is an intelligence agency. They don't have the forensic resources the FBI does. They are working with the Iraqi police I have read to train them in some of these areas as well.

I just hope when this all done, that there's a Playboy 'Girls of Iraq' pictorial...it could show them against a backdrop of blown up buildlings and dismembered corpses - Favorite Hobbies "I like sorting through rubble for body parts, playing chicken at checkpoints, and jacuzzis"..

I think I'm with Shakta on this one...the FBI would be the best choice for this type of investigation, it is their specialty, whereas the CIA is more of a 'spy' agency.

And there are Iraqi agencies of this type up and running for the FBI to be a consultant to. I don't know who else would do this, except maybe Scottland Yard.
