Yeah I get that, I've got chewed out extensively for the same thing as OP, but I've always called electronic music techno since forever and so don't lots of others.  I oftentimes can't distiguish the genres anyway so it doesn't seem to matter what I call it.

Well then it's just because you can't distinguish the genres, but don't call all electronic music techno. It's not futile, it's just the truth, there is dubstep, techno, house, psytrance, and dozens of other genres, all electronic music isn't techno, it's like saying progressive rock is the same thing as jazz "because you can play both with a guitar anyway"

I do like some individual electronic artists, but being so exclusive with genres and labels seems silly to me.  Maybe it is just my area/social circle, but I've never been corrected IRL for calling electronic 'techno'.  It is just easier to say and sounds slick.

I do my best on the Shroomery to be more specific just so I don't start threads like this

I'm a person who has had some of my greatest experiences at mustic festivals in my life, but the festival that's in my city right now is different. First of all, I once had a bad trip at a similar  festival, being held at the same outdoor park. Second of all, the people at this festival are very different from the heady crowd that I'm accustomed to. The techno-crowd seems like a bunch of date rapists who wear lacoste. Also, the heavy traffic in my town really sucks when streets in downtown are getting closed down for this shit. Another thing that sucks for some people is how the availability of dr00gs in my city seems to dwindle. I'm lucky that my herbal guy doesn't attend this trendy elitist fucking crap techno-fest. This place is a spectacle, where people  pay $500 on a ticket, so they can hear shit music and buy overpriced bunk or mediocre-quality dr00gs. I'm sure it's got some benefits, I'll admit the lasers are probably awesome and the women have sexy clothes, but I don't need to pay 500 bucks to see that shit. I'd rather use the money for a festival with real music, and actual instruments...or just buy dr00gs. No offense to the shroomery people who enjoy the techno-festival scene.. I just woke up in a bad mood, and got stuck in the fucking traffic when I was running late for work yesterday.

Boo-frickety-hoo. You obviously don't know the first thing about electronic music and have no place casting judgment upon it. Go listen to Bob Dylan or something! :crankey:

You're not alone OP

Does this qualify in terms of arrangement?

Totally irrelevant but it seems nearly all music is electronic these days if we're gonna get literal.  We're listening to digitally synthesized sounds unless you're banging notes or using an analog record player maybe.

"Electronic music" is defined by its production methods. Bob Dylan is not electronic music just because you're listening to it on an electronic device or because it was mixed in a studio. Electronic music involves the use of no traditional instruments at any stage of production, except as samples. :cookiemonster:

yeah moon rock mushy, that's some pretty dope shit, but i still prefer something like rodrigo y gabriella when it comes to acoustic, over people who loop and sythesize their acoustic guitar. im not crazy about keller williams, but i like some of his songs.

fuck ultra, i'd rather be tripping to this music right here..

i saw these guys right near where ultra fest is, and the tickets were like $20...crazy world we live in, $20 to see talented guitarists play their heart and soul, versus $500 to watch a bunch of DJs just stand there, and practically do nothing.

either way, i'm not bashing "electronica" as a whole, there's plenty of electronic music that i enjoy

i was watching ultra livefeed and DJ tiesto didn't touch his DJ equipment for like 10 minutes, he was just standing there, trying to look cool, letting his pre-recorded music play, and getting massive applause.

and on an entirely different subject:

this,

I watched the LIVE UMF this weekend for the most part. I am also attending the 2nd weekend.

This will be my 4th year.

I am also going to EDC, and hopefully Tomorrowland(was CP last year, which I did go to)

Its fucking Live. Love it or hate it. Next weekend is going to be huge.

And fuck your downtown and your Miami. I lived in Fort Lauderdale. Miami is one of the most corrupt cities in the U.S.A. No one gives a shit about your complaint. Hell the event brings MILLIONS of dollars into local businesses and brings money to the city.

The Carl Cox stage is sick for sure.  There's some other good stuff there too, but it's few and far between.  Almost everything on the main stage is cheesy junk.

Armin is terrible IMO.  Trance is just generally boring.

Oh yeah I totally agree, that was just something that came up when I searched 'acoustic techno', just trying to show that lots of people have a loose definition of 'techno', but people seem to be pretty set on well-defined black and white scenes.

R&G kinda remind me of Jose Feliciano's style for some reason, with modern flair.  They're awesome.

I think most of the revenue is going to the wealthy, who already happen to be doing just fine. In fact, any business in the direct proximity of ultrafest should most likely be doing just fine, and doesn't rely on the extra revenue brought in by ultra. They get plenty of events, not to mention the frequent heat games, they definitely dont give a shit about one event like ultra. The only people who are deriving major financial benefit from ultra are the fuckers who decided the tickets should cost 500 bucks, and that the drinks inside the venue should be unreasonably pricey. Are they going to let those molly people just dehydrate themselves when their wallets are empty? Now I'm just ranting, because someone had to mention how ultra brings in millions of dollars. Sure it brings in millions, it also brings in rape.

So let me get this straight...

You moved into one of the most ostentatious districts of one of the most expensive cities in America,
and you knew about Ultra, and that you live across the block from an NBA arena, not to mention theaters,
and world famous attractions right?

And your here to bitch about the traffic?

Ultra is the shit, and if you wern't whining about the money maybe you could have gone in and enjoyed yourself.

Ft. Lauderdale is the bleached white version of miami. Just no where near as much fun to go out there for anything.
Miami and Ultra are un fucking believable for a ton of reasons. If you're not in to them, then there are plenty
of less crowded, lower rent places in the world with what you're looking for.

I partied all ten days for Ultra and Music week. There is nothing more fun, even if it doesn't fit into the heady 'scene' mold. by the way, that isn't a reason to not like something.

Carl Cox :mushroom2:

rodfarva - did you go see Luciano play while there (assuming you would since you like Carl Cox)? I watched his set online and it was so beautiful.

No, we had a conflict, but I caught Luciano a few times before. Ultra is so packed with stuff you want to see that you have to wander alone or compromise with the group.

I think we caught about 6 hours of Carl all together. It was almost as good as asot.
