Pledges for D.A.R.E

Did anyone else have to make a pledge for DARE about not doing drugs? Double points if you remember and post it.
Mine: I WILL NEVER EVER(×20)DO DRUGS!
I was sick of taking 2 anti-drug classes per year and shat that out just to make the teacher happy. I specifically didn't include alcohol or tobacco (which were demonized almost as much as anything else)because my little mind knew when i was old enough i would try those once at least, but i'd never touch drugs. SPOILER ALERT: I have touched drugs.

Yea about 15 years ago when I was in elementary school.
And out of the whole school my Dare officer chose me to read mine
Out loud at a assembly. If only he saw me now. Who would have thought.

Oh yah.
Officer Scott told us all about the high school quarterback with the full scholarship to some dream school who ruined his life by trying pot and then crashing his car into a child. Really scared me as a 12 year old. I don't remember my pledge, though. I do distinctly remember watching a movie where the ending result was some guy jumping through a second or third story window on dr00gz.

I also remember a sex-ed assembly that went into great detail about the perils of anal sex. That was 8th grade, and I was shocked.

I remember in 4th grade the officer skipped the topic of hallucinogens, i ask what they are and he says "mushrooms&acid mostly, they make you see dragons and elephants and it's like dreaming awake." Well that sounds real scary:rolleyes:. From that point on i asked every officer about acid and the stories changed so much i thought they were tripping. The shitty things they said about acid had me wanting to try it since 6th grade. I accepted acid being safe before i even considered smoking weed. I wanted to try it long before i wanted to try weed. If they really wanted to scare me away they could've mentioned RC's (if they were popular back then).

I wish I still had my dare shirt.  I would definitely wear it.  The people who know me would get a kick out of it.  Cops have given me a bad vibe ever since I was little.  One of the days the dare cop came in to give a presentation a state trooper also came and showed his car and gave us a speech.  I muttered state trooper more like state pooper and unfortunately my teacher heard.  I was standing up to authority as a third grader haha.  Ended up having to write an apology letter and apologize to the cop directly for simple mindless third grade intelligence joke.

DARE didnt exist when I was in school, if it did it wasnt in my school, it's
not in the schools in the county I live in now either because the sheriff
started researching after I posed him the question about why he supports a
program that introduces kids to drugs and has been such a failure, the cops
here no longer support it

I was similar as a kid - had to write apology letters to catholic priests on multiple occasions.
Gonna burn with the heathens, I guess.

I took a DARE class in fifth grade and didn't have anything against it. Back then I just didn't have an opinion on drugs, or anything else for that matter.

At the end of the class we had to write a 2 page paper on what we learned and mine won out of our entire school. I just thought everyone else was retarded for not being able to regurgitate what the officer fed to us. I won the stuffed DARE Lion and the shirt, and was forced to sit at the front of the auditorium during the big DARE rally, right in front of the speaker.


Shit was lame. Probably why I do so many drugs now.

Still think I have my DARE ruler hanging around. Only drugs that were convincing enough not to try were Meth, Heroin, Extacy, and Angel Dust/PCP. Every week we talked about a new drug. Last day we talked about Marijuana and went on a field trip to jail. Their only argument against weed was that it was a gateway drug and it could put you in jail and ruin your life because you wouldn't be able to get a job. Then they took our finger prints, and everything and simulated what it was like to be in jail. After even one time of trying LSD, they told us we would have flash backs anytime in our life ranging from 1-50 years and that there were reported incidents with people having flashbacks in their car on their way home and wrecked because of a flashback. Are flashbacks even real? How could a forensic scientist even legally conclude this?

I was still very against drugs at the time, but it sure wasn't D.A.R.E. that had me fully convinced, Mostly my dads parenting and his healthy life style that influenced me to think badly of them. DARE was only an 8 day program, that occurred once a week, barley remember a thing from those classes. My school district did have many other drug programs though that had somewhat of an effect. Although the HS in the district had a really bad drug rep compared to the HS I went to in Georgia.

I remember being distracted/disturbed by the fact a cop in full uniform was educating us on drugs.  Someone asked the cop if he had used his gun before and he said unfortunately yes that shit freaked me out.I had prior influence from older brothers who had been through dare and they basically told me about how much of a joke dare was.  I also learned what sex was when I was 3 or 4 from watching the movies they watched.  First time I got head was when I was 3 or 4.  Thought about that the other day, kind of ridiculous.

Luckily for me,in fourth grade,when they forced the dare program on our young spongy minds,I was smart enough to get kicked out :lol:

My go to phrase was "meth is good!" And if that didn't work I would try to get a rise out of the officer by interrupting his videos with obscene little kid antics  :kummeli:

Nope.
The D.A.R.E. officer did tell us it was okay to eat our glue because that was nontoxic, unlike drugs, and he used to eat it all the time when he was in second grade.
