Is the crowd/traffic in Miami worse than it is in Austin right now with SXSW?

I can't complain though; I saw Frank Turner last night for free, and met/talked to the lead singer for Baroness in front of another bar Wednesday night.

There is a very small amount of techno present at Ultra.  It's mostly the super mainstream/shitty progressive house.  If only it was techno, that's a very different scene.

maybe you're right dude, I mean I'm not anti-techno, for example I've always enjoyed Infected Mushroom

btw, they got a live stream for ultra, DJ right now is awful and the people are loving it:  http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ultra-music-festival-2012

Really.  Not even close.  They used to make psy-trance, now they make shitty dubstep from what I've heard.

This is techno

Gaiser - Some Slip (Original Mix)

Infected is awesome as they were ever.  army of mushrooms is fucking insane.
I saw them at summerset last summer and OMG... I never thought that I would see them.  Since I was like 15 I have wanted to see them live-more than a decade ago.
Its electrafying...  Totally kicked the headliners out of the water... pretty lights, big gigantic, umphrees mcgee, and even blew lotus out of the water...
takes a bit to start but check it:

At like 4 mins it gets progressivie but they rip it back to the darkness of psytrance instead of breaking in to a shitty dubstep drop...

It was in a hockey rink, like thousand people jammed in.  Thrity mins into the show, all but like 100 ppl left to see pretty lights.  It was awesome, almost it was almost empty.  It felt like I was IVign bass, literally felt like I was plugged into the shit from the back of my brain stem like in the matrix.  The dj on the left was tripping balls while controlling the visulizations, and on right was mixing the tunage.  The computer screen for the visuals was like 4ft by 3ft and clear, transparent touch screen.  I was mesmarized watching him do that shit.
After we walked out to a see of 22,000 people and pretty lights tearing shit up.  It was awesome but 75% was not mixed live, sounded just like his sound cloud account...

I will admit that's some pretty great techno you guys have been posting in this thread. Although, I don't really listen to techno unless I'm tripping on DXM, which I haven't done for a while. Or if I'm taking N2O, while tripping on hallucinogens. I've heard techno is great for MDMA, but I haven't done MDMA.. I've always told myself that MDMA, crack, and shooting heroin are the 3 drugs I won't try until I'm old and dying, or diagnosed with a deadly disease. I always knew in the back of my head that I would go way too crazy on those 3 drugs if I ever try them.

I'm about to smoke a bowl and spend a few minutes checking out the live stream for ultra. I'm interested in how the lightshow and laser effects look at night, and see if it's really worth 500 hundred bucks. It also might be interesting to see if there's any girls I know dancing on molly getting wild and naked, lol..it's a live stream so any thing is possible

The traffic's not that bad unless you are going somewhere that's right next to the outdoor amphitheater. They usually do the heat games right next to where they are doing ultra, so people who live right there have become accustomed to the traffic.

I was there for that performance.  What a day that was for a first time festival in the middle of no where Wisconsin.  Bonobo, Lotus, Mat Zo, Infected Mushroom, and Pretty Lights all in a row.

Now that does sound awesome, plus someone mentioned that jam bands were there also. Throw some guitar into mix and I'm pretty happy, I'm not that hard to satisfy when it comes to music, if I've got the right buzz going on. It just can't be terribly obnoxious shit. Anyways that festie you guys are talking bout does sound like it was cool, funny you guys were both there and realizing it now on the shroomery over 10 years later.  Bet the tickets weren't $500 like with ulra, and it sounds much better. Did I mention Ultra  doesn't even have camping? Which is another thing I forgot to mention on my list of pet peeves with Ultra, I'm always afraid the road is gunna be a splatter fest with all those kids drivin home after a festival, especially one where copious amounts of drugs are required for the music to sound impressive. Since I'm being king crankey about all this, I'll mention one positive thing, I found out Dangermau5 was gunna be at Ultra, not that I'm very much into Dangermau5, but I did always think it would be cool to trip out on the spectacle of a visual performance that dude puts on. Still not worth anywhere near 500 bucks and that many hours of my time for the festival.

Dude.  You HAVE to try MDMA at least once in your life.  It is an experience that I think everyone should have.

For health reasons, do the MDMA- and crack if it really interests you- when you are younger. This is primarily for health (heart) reasons, but also due to the types of situations where you roll when younger.

Yeah I know, but I tend to get over enthusiastic about new drugs, and MDMA just sounds to good to be true. I now how much I would enjoy it, I'd end up doing many, many times. I was in a situation where i couldn't imagine life without cid as a backup to my headstash of mush. I trip less often now, and am less enthusiastic about it. I wanna leave a couple drugs on my list of things to try before I get old, otherwise I wll have tried everything there is to try when it comes to drugs that catch my interest- and there will be nothing left for me to be curious about. That sounds like it would suck. I will end up trying MDMA at some point in my life maybe when I'm old, unless I get killed in a freak accident or something and never get the chance to try it.

yeah it sounds like it would be cool to see him also. still only a couple good DJs for the whole festival doesn't soudn worth it. but what's this about "find a way in", perhaps this festival can be crashed? :bouncysmoke: meh, doesn't sound worth the risk, perhaps i would consider taking that risk it if the lineup was more style. i remember at wanee one year a lot of people were gathering snipped off pieces of the wrist bands from the trash cans, taping them together, and walking in. personally i still bought my own ticket, but i can definitely understand why people would take such a risk for a festival like that.

Dangermau5?  Are you sure you don't mean Deadmau5?  He's AWFUL.

The lineup tonight on the Carl Cox stage at Ultra was amazing - 5-7pm: Nicole Moudaber, 7-10pm: Carl Cox, 10-close: Ritchie Hawtin

Just so we are all clear, most people go by this definition

Main Entry:  techno-music
Part of Speech:  n
Definition:  a type of music genre that uses electronic instruments

It is not offensive or incorrect to use techno as a replacement for electronic.

Some people call everything with an electric guitar Rock 'n' Roll, they're not necessarily wrong.  Words mean different things to different people, nobody owns them no matter how much of a hipster you think you are.

Also I think MDMA is wack and grossly overrated, so it is.

That definition is completely wrong.

Quote:
techno: A style of fast, heavy electronic dance music, typically with few or no vocals.

https://www.google.ca/search?q=define%3Atechno&aq=f&oq=define%3Atechno&aqs=chrome.0.57j58.1403&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Techno is a specific genre of electronic music.

You have to listen to a good set to get a good feel for techno.  Like this one:

Ritchie Hawtin at the Boiler Room (Amsterdam)

Yeah I get that, I've got chewed out extensively for the same thing as OP, but I've always called electronic music techno since forever and so don't lots of others.  I oftentimes can't distiguish the genres anyway so it doesn't seem to matter what I call it.

Then call it electronic music.  Techno is a specific genre, electronic music is the umbrella genre.

To me it is like some people consider "blues" to be only traditional songs preformed in a specific 12-bar format, and they're right, but they're purists.  Some people consider any modern emotional music "blues", they're right too.

Techno is a specific genre and an umbrella term.  You don't have to use it like that, but it seems futile and stifling to try and convince everyone that techno has to have so-and-so beat format and whatever else.  Most people aren't purists.
