How do contacts fare in areas with a lot of debris and dust in the air? Or would I need to wear goggles frequently?

You'd probably need goggles. It's windy as shit here today (like 30mph with 50-60mph gusts) so shit is flying everywhere. I was outside for like 5 minutes and I got dust in my eye and it got stuck on my contact, annoying as hell. My parents live in TX and it's really dusty there, I also find wearing contacts there pretty annoying.

Laser eye surgery guys.  Seriously.  Best decision I've ever made.

I don't even know if I would be a candidate for lasik. With contacts or glasses I have 20/10 vision (better than normal) and without I'm like 20/30 or 20/35, so my eyes aren't really that bad.

You would be.  They will do it if your prescription has been stable for one year and your vision is worse than ~20/25.  If you need glasses, they will do laser eye surgery so you don't.  That's basically the criteria as far as I know.

Just remember that your eyesight will never stop diminishing. I see LASIK as too big an expense for something that won't last the rest of my life. As bad as my eyesight is now, I don't even want to know what it'll be like in 30 years or more...

Suit yourself.  IMO it is literally the best decision I have ever made in my life.  You don't even know how incredible it is to not ever have to worry about breaking your glasses, cleaning them, putting them on in the morning, playing sports with glasses or if not having to fiddle with contacts.  There is nothing better than just being able to see.

Sure, when I'm 35-40 I'll probably need to get glasses, but that's 17 years of my life without them in my prime, hell yes that is worth $5000.  You probably spend $200/year on glasses and contacts.  Maybe the laser eye is a little more expensive, but you also... don't have glasses.

Ya convenience is nice. No doubt. I guess I'm just used to dealing with the accessories lol

I had laser done almost 10 years ago, still have 20/20 vision. Cost me around 3000 at the time but I was able to write it off as a business expense.

Right now I think its around 1500 for both eyes.

So worth it IMO

Assuming you're talking about needing reading glasses when you get older, that type can't really be fixed by laser surgery anyway. That happens for different reasons than the reason people have poor vision. Poor vision like near sightedness or farsightedness are typically due to some problem with the cornea... it's misshapen or the wrong thickness. What laser surgery does is reshape the cornea to give you optimal vision.

When you get older the reason you need reading glasses is because of a condition called presbyopia. Presbyopia is where the lens of the eye (inside the eye) looses it's ability to focus. The way it focuses is by muscles in the eye stretching or releasing the the lens so it changes shape bringing objects into focus. In presbyopia I've heard the lens and/or muscles compared to elastic in socks... eventually they get worn out and don't work as well. Laser surgery can kinda maybe fix it depending on the person's prescription. I've heard it's a halfass fix that can mess up stereovision. I'd rather just have reading glasses than have monovision.

There's your optometry lesson for the day.
