It's the same capacity. You can do a 1 to 1 duplicate of a CD onto a burnable CD. A few different programs can do that, I used to be a big fan of one of them. I forget the name, allowed you to do a perfect copy of a CD onto a burnable CD.

In the process of ripping the music from the CD you might be increasing the size accidentally.

What exactly are you doing, AWP? I mean, obviously, you can 'fit' flac on a burnable CD; ca. 700Mbytes of it, in fact. What specific problem are you running into?

It's probably some special type of cd that allows for flac to be burned on that's different from the average store bought blank cd. (just to give an example) if you copy all the data from a PS2 game and attempted to burn it onto a blank DVD, you will find that a PS2 will reject the burnt copy. Why? because in order for the PS2 to believe that the burnt DVD is a legit copy you would need to burn the copy onto a special type of disc that's not sold in your normal shop.

Nah, PlayStation copy protection relies on a bit of data stored outside the (physical) area where normal DVD drives (and writes) read or write. It has nothing to do with the actual content in the regular area of the disc.

You're just using facts to disprove misconceptions, you fool. That's against the rules.

From what I remember, you can buy recordable cd's that hold significantly more than the standard 700 MB/74 min. 99 minutes is the biggest I remember off the top of my head. If you were burning an audio cd from flac and the burning program you wanted to use didn't directly support flac, I guess one way to go would be to convert to wav first.

OP is talking about CDs not DVDs!

And as for DVDs the ones you can buy in stores are known as DVD-5 for roughly 5 gigs, more like 4.7 gigs in practice, while the DVDs that movies come on are known as DVD-9 for you guessed it...  DVD-9s are generally only available to movie and media distributors and not simpleton consumers.

I believe there's a company that retails DVD-R's that should be playable by non-modded PS2's, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, you're right - it's off-topic.

I know he's talking about CDs, I just used that DVD one as a comparable example.

I don't know why I did such a bizarre comparison, I guess I must have been out of my mind to compare two things that are so different to each other

Dual layer DVDRs are pretty easy to find I think. I've never bought them or tried to use them in a playstation though.

Point is that your comparison didn't add much to the topic. There is no reason why you couldn't burn flac to a CD. It'll work just fine. It'll just end up as a data disc and not an audio CD.

What? I've burned hundreds of albums in FLAC to 700MB CD-Rs without a problem. FLAC is a compression format. They don't come off the retail CD in FLAC, they are converted from .WAV files which are considerably larger.

Try loading the .cue files into Burrrn (http://www.burrrn.net/) and burning them that way. Should work.

I don't get it either.

Normal cd-r capacity is 700MB/80minutes of audio. The bitrate of CD audio is 1411,2 kbit/s meaning a full 80 minutes of audio equals around 826 MB of data. How is this possible, is there something I don't know?? Or do I just suck at maths?
