Being Homeless

Has anyone here ever been homeless either by choice or through circumstance? If so what are some useful tips for staying alive and getting food?

Is there welfare or income assistance where you are? I'd get on that ASAP.

Find the library, use the computers there to look up food banks.

If someone lends you a couch, do something nice for them, do the dishes, whatever.

Get on food stamps (depending on where you live)

You can get in to Costco by telling them you're just there to buy alcohol even if you don't have a membership card (and if you eat every free sample they have, maybe double up on a couple, that's lunch).

Locate clean public bathrooms since some places it's very illegal to pee in public. You can become a registered sex offender for that.

Good luck, I've been there. It's cold, and it sucks. One last piece of advice:

Meet a girl, and eat her pussy good. You can stay at her house as long as you're chomping that muff.

Thanks man through a series of dumb decisions I may not have a job or a place to stay . I'll look into the food stamps and hopefully get some kind of help so I'm not totally destitute god what a mess this is

Yes, I have. Try to stay close to a public library and a 24 hour store like a walmart. There's a couch surfing website, you might be able to use it to find an occasional place to sleep. Start looking for work NOW, the long you're out there the harder it will be. Try to see if any relatives will take you in or let you use their showers.

If you are near a college, use their showers and facilities, usually in/near the gym. In fact, just wear a backpack and spend as much time on campus as possible. Some campus libraries are 24 hours, and during the day you can discretely sleep in them. It would almost be worthwhile to relocate to near a college if you're not currently near one.

Good luck, man. You will never get that cold back out of you again. :frown:

I would love to but living in nature for a short period of time is one thing actually surviving is a whole other animal. Park service would likely harass me and finding food and water would be an everyday struggle in the summer in winter I would die without help.

Holding up a "need money" sign near a highway exit can actually be some fast cash believe it or not.
I've heard of people making 100 dollars a day just doing that.

Panhandling is illegal in a lot of places...

Do the library thing,  more than likely there are churches in your area that do a free lunch type thing, depending on how populated your area is.

Dumpster dive at grocery stores, a lot of the stuff in them is still good, but if it sits in a dumpster for a few days it will go bad.

Find a good girl, shack up with her.  I was homeless when I met my girlfriend.  We've been together 2 and half years, and we've been back and forth from either me having a job and her staying with me, or her having a job and me staying with her.  Now we both have jobs and have our place.

Good people get into shitty situations, but it's these things that make us stronger.

Also look for some type of 'community outreach' program.

they have one in my area that will hook you up with a couple weeks worth of groceries and give you gas money if you have car registration.  They only help twice in 6 months, but that should be all the help you need if you can find a church/churches that have free lunch.

Give back to the free lunch though, volunteer to help clean up etc.  Don't just be one of those assholes that goes eat there everyday, and does absolutely nothing to help.

Or, worst case scenario, you could get a petty misdmeanor and put up with 3 hots and a cot for the winter.

Food stamps are good for this too.  Tell them you are homeless and you can stay at your buddy's house as long as you have food.

This should help you for a few months til you can get it back together.

Get over that like now. It will only hurt you on the streets. You're going to have to talk to people and network to get yourself out of this.

Or at least a "job." Something to produce income.
