I got diagnosed with psychological disorders
    #17563696 -

The doctor says I have bipolar disorder II and possibly borderline personality disorder. This explains so much of my behaviour like exploding over fairly insignificant shit, being periodically more productive that the rest of the population, excoriation, suicide ideation and others.

Should I take the freaking meds or just keep on groovin :fungo::rockon:?

If it's a mood stabilizer, take it.
Anything else, my suggestion would be to keep on groovin and learn some coping skills to deal with the explosiveness.
My mom is bipolar and stopped taking meds years ago.
She is just fine from what I've seen.

I was diagnosed bipolar 8 years ago and still often get the diagnosis during mandatory psych evals if I give truthful answers rather than "correct" answers.

Been unmedicated all along but finally Im starting to wonder if maybe I do need meds.

I dont mind the mania...because I get alot of things done, make money, etc...it's the depression that's the killer.

I can go from being on top of the world to a deep unshakeable depression in a few minutes.

I think the doctor just wants to make his living. If you feel like you need help I would try something else before diving into pharmaceuticals.
Are you taking any drugs now?

Meditation? Talking to somebody? Shrooms?

I agree...and if it werent for falling into a deep dark depression without word or warning I wouldnt mind this whole thing.

I've been labeled a few things....
Prescribed a few medications...

I feel no need to be medicated at this point in my life, although I still think of suicide almost daily (It's not morbid, I'm just curious...It's hard to explain to some people.)

Unless your outbursts are getting out of control I'd say stick with what you've been doing.

I'd give it a try. I have been around several people that needed meds for bipolar. I don't know the exactmsituationmof course. But the ones that took the meds you could tell a difference for the good like night and day. Then of course the ones that didn't they usually got worse or alienated a lot of people.

Yes I watch a lot of movies.

Pick it, pack it, fire it up, come along and take a hit from the bong.

I've heard money doesn't buy happiness, well it sure pays the sadness debt!

I got diagnosed with major depression first so they prescribed me 15mg mirtazapine but I tried to kill myself 1 day after taking it so they told me to take 30mg and are detaining me in a looney bin under some mental health act. I think I'm in for some lithium carbonate and maybe that valproate stuff.

I'm diagnosed with bipolar also. I take a small dose of zyprexa (mood stabalizer ) at night time.. I think it balances me out but I've been gaining a lot of weight. It helps keep those strange thoughts away......

My only suggestion is to stay away from SSRI's for your depression if a Dr. suggests you take them.

They've done a lot more harm than good in the cases I've seen personally.

Type two bipolar can be managed with meditation, self awareness and good health management (diet and exercise).  I was diagnosed in my early twenties, tried every med combo in the book and the side effects were all far worse than the actual condition.  You'll have to learn to recognize when you're manic or depressed and work very hard to moderate your responses.  Keeping a journal to catch disruptive/destructive thought patterns, identify them and shape them into constructive ones is essential.  It will take a while, but you can do it.  I personally don't think there are any effective meds for our condition, but you could always try.
I don't know about the borderline personality disorder, but I'm pretty sure there aren't really meds for that either, they might put you on an antipsychotic or ssri but neither of those are tailored specifically to the condition, and are probably overkill for something you would be need to work on managing with a therapist anyway.

Lamotrigine solves bipolar issues fairly quickly and with minimal side effects. It prevents seizures too (you probably don't need that, but it comes with).

bipolar disorder would probably be the disorder I'd prefer the most, I mean I hear the mania is rockin'!

My mother is on lamictal and it works for her.  I found it utterly ineffective.  It's better for the depression side than the mania.

Yep. Who needs cocaine when your brain makes its own?

mania is pretty much like tripping on acid minus the visuals...or perhaps acid just makes me manic.

I suspect the latter :yesnod:.

Sucks to hear about your whole situation mellowparty :frown:. Fuck it. That's my only real advice on the matter. There's no point getting worked up about anything that's beyond your control. As for the psychiatric aspect of it.. that will work in your favour. One of my friends was caught with 9oz of mdma, first offence & no criminal record.. he was studying at uni at the time.. he got his prof's as character witnesses and shit.. in the end he got a big fine, 18 month suspended sentence & 6 month tag.

Stress amplifies psychological maladies beyond belief. Do what your docs say, play the game, get out of that place and then make up your own mind what is best for you. Sometimes we all need a lifeline..

Speaking as someone who has a severe mental illness and has been battling said mental illness nearly every one of the 50 years of my life, I am here to tell you that you will be far, far more miserable if you do not take your meds.  That is the way the ball bounces.  You got dealt this hand.  So deal with it.  Some people have to take medicine for high blood pressure or they could die. You have to take it for a mental condition that could kill you if you don't take the medicine.  It is as simple as that, my friend.  Good luck!

My problem with these pharmaceuticals for "mental disorders" is that one person says it works for them, another says it doesn't. Seems to me like they really don't do anything an its all just placebo. :2cents:

I really don't believe they are a placebo, but I agree that they work for only certain people. I've only seen bad outcomes with anti-depressants, but I've heard about many good outcomes.
