NASCAR-Any fans here on the shroomery?
    #17525984 -

Don't know how I missed the sports forum here but any way. Is there very many NASCAR fans here? I have always loved racing, i have done amature dirt track racing and just love it. I live in the north and there just isn't many racing fans here none of my friends are they don't hate it it's just not their thing.

I know it's the middle of play off time and NASCAR is 45 days away still. The NFL is my 2nd fave I really like football but haven't made it to a game before, would love to I'm a skins fan. Been to a couple of races.

I went to the 50th Ann. Of Dayton just a couple years back and wow insane it was epic!

Also almost out of the blue was able to go to Kansas speedway during the chase (nascars play off) got to meet a driver and it was just really cool how it all came together to go.

Any way just seeing if your out there cuz I can talk NASCAR for eva

I'm not huge on NASCAR like some people are, but I do follow how the season is going.  I have been to three races in the past.  Richmond, Homestead, and Charlotte.

I also play fantasy NASCAR (stock car challenge) on ESPN, and the one on Yahoo.

I had a close friend that was seriously into the sport.  I called her the queen of NASCAR.  Her favorite driver was Carl Edwards.  She was so pissed about him possibly leaving Rousch, she was talking about not rooting for him if he did.
She past away last year in January, and there was an ARCA race where one of the drivers had a memorial sticker on the car for her.  I thought that was a nice gesture.

That a pretty cool story thanks for sharing. I haven't played fantasy NASCAR yet, I seem to always forget or something else is going on when I remember.

i don't see why people make fun of nascar so much. it's actually kind of interesting, there's lots of strategy involved with deciding when to pit, tuning the cars pre-race and during the race, drafting, etc.

i don't really watch it much, but i have from time to time, and i understand why people could get really into it.

It's mainly because they don't understand the sport and think thank any one can drive a car in a circle. As you said there is so much more to it.

Most people shit their pants at a simple 100 mph lol and they think they could race at 190+ in a pack of 42 cars inches apart.

The team aspect to it is huge every one has to be spot on or you ain't winning.

Obviously I could go on a rant so I won't lol

I've been in boats going 100+ and that's wild.  It's a different feeling than going 100 in a car, but I couldn't imagine being in a car, let alone driving one at the speeds they go while on such short tracks.

They have my respect.

Remember when that jackass Goldern Tate, said racers weren't athletic.  I'd like to see that donut thief in a NASCAR race.

I'll watch it every now and then.
Matt Kenseth and Travis Kvapil (spelling?) are from right near my home.
I don't even know if Kvapil is still one of the 43.
I like Kenseth, though..if I have to choose....but didnt he join a fucking Toyota team?

And i'ld like to see those "athletes?" run a 4.4 and bench 300 lbs.

Driving is definitely a skill but it doesn't require much, if any, athleticism at all.

Kinda ignorant statement unless you have drivin a race car

I'm pretty sure runnin a 4.4 and benching 300 isn't the deciding factors on athleticism watch this video that espn made this year about NASCAR drivers. Espn sports science

I'm not in that good of shape lol I'm in shitty shape. I drove on a dirt track that is 3/8th of a mile. We would run 4 races on a sat night. First race was a 5 lap race for the 4 fastest qualifiers not bad easy enough. Second and third race are 10 laps I'd be sweating like a whore in church after those. Main event is 20 laps and after that I was plain beat hardly lift my arms and would be thirsty/ hungry as fuck!

I did it for 5 years absolute  most fun time in my life. I still have all of my stuff and cars it's just so expensive and you don't win shit. I won 4 out of 5 races one night and made around 250.00 lol paid for my gas that's about it. but amature racin ain't about money it's bragging rights and trophies

Kvapil is in the 83 now

Kenseth went to the 20 car this year and ya it's a Toyota team:foreheadslap: but on the upside it's Joe Gibbs and you don't win three super bowls and three NASCAR championships if your not the shit! But WHY Toyota I hear ya on that.

Of course it isn't the only measure of athleticism but Golden Tate can, I HIGHLY doubt any nascar driver can.
I don't see how that video proves they are athletic at all.
I don't hate Nascar, I just think its ridiculous when they are paraded around like they are an athlete.

Gair please tell me what physical attributes being a nascar driver requires? They typical traits real athletes have like Strength, anaerobic/aerobic endurance, and speed certainly don't apply. Are professional star craft players athletes?

I'm not being an ass but If you watched that video and think this still I can't help but think :trollmove:

Don't get me wrong of course they are not the pinicle of an athlete. I don't think any one any where thinks that. Is a football player more athletic probably most of them are.

Jimmie Johnson, kasey Kane or mark Martin are some athletic dudes you can't deny that. Most drivers have a strict program to be the best they can be. One exception is tony Stewart he's got a bit of a gut and loves his Burger King lol but he's GOD of any thing with for wheels there's always exceptions.
