I never liked them before, but I've started listening to some stuff.. I've been hooked! Anyone ever hear their remix of david bowie's Heroes ? Mm...
im starting to like their stuff alot more.. what kind of music do they do? Is it electronica or something? It's not really techno or trance..

Man aphex twin is the craziest shit. However, it's not really a band, its just one dude.

Haven't listened to 'em on shrooms, but on DXM they kicked ass! Some of their stuff is downright creepy, but others are real ambient light tracks--just depends on which tracks you listen to.

Aphex Twin AKA Richard D James is a bonafide motherfuckin genius! He started out just releasing samples when he was just a wee kiddy and he has released stuff under so many other names even he doesnt probably remember it all. I think history will mark him down as some kind of motzaresque figure. If we still have history that is.

I loved all the super-frenetic breaks on Ambient Works 85-92! Everything else I download by aphex is real gay ambient shit. (doctorj= not a fan of ambient w/ no beat) anyone have any song title recommendations? I really only like the dark creepy fast-paced stuff. those breaks are pure genius!

I'm sure Aphex Twin is thrilled to hear that there are plenty of people out there who love his music, yet still don't actually PURCHASE IT TO THANK HIM.

actually, its sorta the same for me.. i found out about aphex from a large mp3 collection i came into possession of... it's odd.. i don't really know how to thank him. if i buy his cds, ill never listen to them- i stopped listening to them ever since i received an ipod as a gift... if he put on a live performance of some sort, i'd definately pay to see it, but hm.. i don't really know edit: im always locking myself into odd setups. this is no different

"I'm sure Aphex Twin is thrilled to hear that there are plenty of people out there who love his music, yet still don't actually PURCHASE IT TO THANK HIM. " it also really sucks that my boss isn't very thankful of the work I do, and hence does not pay me enough to go buy an overpriced cd, of which 90% of the proceeds go to a greedy record label and not the origional artist. but I would gladly pay to see him in person though. thats where artists make all their money anyway. touring. why else would they subject themselves to the rigors of the road?

"why else would they subject themselves to the rigors of the road?"
because nobody's buying their albums.

He won't get much of the money from the purchace of a cd. The fat-cats get most of the money if you buy a cd. They will soon have sites where you can purchace mp3s. I'm sure more of the money will go to the artists that way.
As for RDJ, He kicks ass. I love Drukqs, as well as Ambient Works V1.

I prefer to call the style drill'n'bass, but you can call it idm (intelligent dance music) or just experimental drum'n'bass. As for the electronica label, this is not a specific genre, just a term used about all electronic genres (basically house, techno, trance, drum'n'bass, hardcore & breakbeat) If you like the drill'n'bass Aphex makes, you should check out artist such as Squarepusher, Kim Hiorthoy, phonem, bogdan raczynski, kid 606 and boards of canada. If you like his ambient cds, check out Brian Eno and Biosphere. Sadly, few people know how to make real beatless ambient. If you prefer his funnier tunes (Speed Racer and Star Wars theme to name a few), I can't think of any other right now. Check out my current Aphex favourite, Outside. *spam* You might want to listen to some of my mp3s as well, if you can get www.couchwarrior.cjb.net to work. *spam*

EVERYONE download "mt saint michel + saint michaels mount" (track 10 disc 1 of drukqs). next time you get really high, listen to it very very loud on a nice stereo system or nice headphones. you will explode.

For those of you who are unitiated into the world of Aphex Twin, I recommend either buying or downloading "richard d. james album" before any of the others. "Selected Ambient works II" is extremely slow and minimalist, "I care becuase you do" is hard to get into, and "druqks" is super fast drill n' bass shit. Two of his most famous songs, and strangely enough also two of his best songs are "Come To Daddy" and "windowlicker", get those two songs and then go for "richard d. james album".
Also, I recently purchased "26 mixes for cash" and it's better than most of his actual albums. It's just 26 remixes, but they're very ambient sounding like "selected ambient works 85-92". Very very good music for tripping. I had an excellent trip while listening to it,
