Is it worth getting Metalocalypse 3 & 4 on Blu Ray or isn't DVD enough for animated?

Yeah. Santa won't buy me drugs for Satanmas so I've got to figure out what to ask for. I've already got Metalocalypse seasons one and two on DVD and they seem to look fine, but I've got an HD projector on the way and was wondering if you guys think it's worth getting them on Blu ray? Or does that really matter for animated stuff? I'm a huge home theater nerd but yeah.

Animation does look better in higher resolutions, but it's not as dramatic of a difference as with something that was filmed IMO. Whether it's worth it to you to buy might depend a lot on the price difference I guess.

So we've got 1 maybe and 1 yes on the blu ray? The only advantage for DVD to me would be that my lappy can play them, but I'm soon switching to an alienware that doesn't have an optical drive.

if you have an hd projector you might as well have hd source material. dvd is only 720x480...

I recently bought a 40" tv and now hopefully santa is bringing me a bluray player(they're DIRT CHEAP these days) so now I am 1080p or bust with my video files...

I haven't bought a movie in forever but with this blueray player I may have to start a new collection.

Haha I hope you behaved well, but no joke... they're probably cheaper than coal.

I hardly ever buy movies except around black Friday and Satanmas when they're all on sale. Sometimes for my birthday too if something I can't wait for came out (like Heavy Metal on blu-ray... HIGHLY recommended).

I did splurge on the collectors edition of Clockwork Orange though.

I think a main difference is that blue ray is the same sound from the master copy. So if you need amazing sound blue ray.

The amount of "difference" that you can discern between blu-ray and DVD depends on the image size.  On my 70" LED, there's a huge difference, between blu-dvd, even with animation.

With a front projector, I'd imagine blu-ray is well worth it.

Get blu ray. DVDs are gonna be obsolete soon.  Hell my local best buy just rearranged their movie section.  Its like 90% Blu-ray now.  I'm sure it'll be 100% pretty soon.  They don't make SDTV's anymore, blu-ray players aren't that expensive, and the price of the blu-rays themselves has come down tremendously in the last year or two.


So buy blu-ray, it's the future. 


At least until they try to make us pay 30 bucks for a movie file on the computer and then they realize real fast that a lot of people, myself included, want packaging and something I can hold in my hands.  The day I can't buy a physical movie is the day I download every single movie for free from the net.

Well, the season 3 Blu Ray also has extras that were not on the DVD, like some of the music videos as well as stuff created for it.

The season 4 Blu Ray seems to have the same extras the DVD version does. 

But the quality is better.

Maybe.  It'll depend on whether they can store/playback Ultra-HD content if (and when) UHD takes off.

Right now, people with relatively high end setups like myself are married to blu-ray.  It's superior in every way, however it'll be interesting to see if the masses will ditch physical discs in exchange for the simplicity of streaming and downloading.
