Dont give blood, at least at work. They might tell them, they might not. Chances are they may tell, chances also are they might not. Why take a chance? Depends on how dependant you are on that job. That's my advice.

A blood donation is NOT a blood drug test... The blood you give is stored, not analyzed in search of drug subproducts. They won't even know you smoke pot.

If you're that paranoid but still want to give blood, don't do it at work. Simple as that.

I remember a questionare that was given by the red cross to high school students at my school before they donated blood. One of the questions was "Have you have sexual contact with a homosexual man, or had contact with anyone who had contact with a homosexual man" The wording is off, as I'm paraphrasing.

Isn't it illegal to ask such questions?

Not in this case.  You give blood of your free will, not because you are forced to.  They ask the questions to determine if your lifestyle puts you at high risk for having a blood communicable disease (such as HIV or Hepatitis).  In those cases, they will not take your blood.

But it's not illegal to ask.

Further public service announcements as events warrant...

So what, are you saying you couldn't donate because of this?

If by "this", you mean that you answer in the affirmative when asked about having had sexual contact with a homosexual man, or being an IV Drug user, then that's correct. You could not donate.

You would be considered to great a risk for being a carrier of blood-borne pathogens. As it would cost a lot to test every single sample that a blood bank takes in - way too much for a non-profit organization to be able to afford to do, then they would simply refuse your blood on that basis.

Why would they take blood that may put others at risk for life threatening diseases? Anyone whom this concept offends, I must say, has a pretty narrow view of the world around them...

People have gotten AIDS from blood transfusions. Havent heard of that happening as of late but then again you have to search for information. the mainstream media(lol) sure as hell doesnt show you anything that has a remote purpose in the outcome of humanity.

I don't think that I have a narrow view of the world around me, but doesn't every donation of blood have the possibility to "put others at risk for life threatening diseases"? Last time I checked, AIDs wasn't exclusive to homosexual men and drug shooters. And I don't think it's justified, the risk that homosexual men pose to blood banks isn't significanlty higher last time I checked.

they will take your blood but when they test it and it comes back positive for THC they will destroy it. if it comes back positive on any of the drug/desease test it will get destroyed, at least thats what my g/f told me and she's an RN so i believe her.

Where do you guys get this?

Here's a partial list of what EVERY SINGLE DONATION is tested for:

ABO/Rh testing - Determines blood type.

Antibody screening - Looks for red cell antibodies that might cause a reaction in a patient.

ALT testing - Screens for general liver problems. Infectious disease testing is more specific.

CMV test - Checks for cytomegalovirus on physicians' request.

Hepatitis testing - Four tests are performed to ensure that blood does not carry Hepatitis B or C.

Syphilis testing

Human T-lymphotropic virus types I and II (HTLV I and II) - This combination test detects possible exposure to rare viruses that are associated with a form of leukemia and a chronic degenerative neurological disease. Confirmatory testing follows a positive HTLV I/II test. Even people with a positive test are rarely affected by the virus - only 1 to 4 percent who have a true positive will develop any disease.

HIV testing - Three tests are performed to ensure donations do not carry the AIDS virus. These tests are antibody testing, antigen testing and nucleic acid amplification (NAT) testing for the DNA of the HIV virus. This test can detect HIV as soon as 11 days after infection.

The reason gays, those in sexual contact with gays or their partners, drug users, and other subgroups are excluded from donating blood is because of the possibility one of the above test may be a false negative putting the recipient at risk.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Hhmm. I believe I stand corrected.  While I knew that donations were all tested before they were tagged for use, I was thinking about testing procedures on the dontation site - usually a bus or high school gym.  I did not make myself clear, and apologize.

And the false negative bit - that's what I was actually trying to say.  I'm usually more consise than that.  My apologies
