Re: IPod Touch, worth it? Anyone own one? [Re: PreparationH]

i bought two ipod touches. they are loads of fun with the apps. decent battery life. however both of mine fell apart even with my good care being given to them right after the warranty was up and since then i've held a grudge against apple and will probably not buy another apple product for as long as i live. i currently have an android phone which satisfies my need for apps, and a zune. which is an exquisite music playing device. i can listen to music all day for about 4 days at nearly full volume without having to charge it, and the sound quality is EXELLENT. so join us zuners >:)

what is retina display??

Basically a super high res screen.  Supposedly when it goes over 300 pixels per inch the human eye can't distinguish pixals at any distance so it looks really really clear, and the tiniest text is readable.  sadly apple are the first ones to use these awesome screens.  960×640/1,136×640 The left one is current gen and the right is the new ones I guess, wider for movies :/ nearly 720p.  compare that to a 1080x1920 monitor

Apple are the first ones to use a "retina" display eh?  I guess my 1 year old Galaxy Nexus with a FULL 720p display (1280x720) is FAR behind the apple 960x640 display eh?

Jesus christ, Apple really has people brainwashed.

They are both quality. Are you saying the iphone is far behind just because its apple?

They just like to play up their marketing terms like that. The "Retina" macbook pro has a 2880x1800 display which I think is pretty impressive. I would not pay what they're asking, but I would love to have a screen that detailed at some point.

People are brain washed by allot more than apple. and thats was new to me, I don't keep up with phones but I know theres nothing else that compares to the ipod touch and the only laptop thats "allot" higher than 1080p is the "Retina" macbook... I'm just waiting for a "retina" or similar monitor for my gaming computer.  I'm not an apple fan, but there might be a few reasons to be one if your retarded rich.  I would get that retina macbook and install 7 on it.  Those other phones seem huge to me also.  I love the stupid and simple IOS when not on my computer but smart phones never got my attention.

I forgot though jailbraking is the only way to go, if there happens to be any good apps in the stupid app store you get em free! theres also a menu you can use by swiping the top to change brightness, turn off wifi to save battery and stuff, pretty usefull, can't really live without it.

According to Apple though, "retina", is pixels per inch.  Your Galaxy Nexus has a larger screen, so there may be less pixels per inch.

Apple's music player integration into their OS is better, as it's actually integrated.  I love Android to death, you could even call me a fanboy (to a very small degree) but I gotta hand it to Apple's interface being significantly better.  Winamp on Android is excellent, but it's third-party and the full integration just isn't there.  This is my main gripe with Android.  Example:  I imported a bunch of music onto my GS3 the other day and all my album art is now cluttering up my photo gallery.

That said, Apple's full integration is a double-edged sword because I can play FLAC on my phone and I don't have to use iTunes which is the greatest thing ever.  I despise iTunes (Yeah, that required three text modifiers). Easily worth less total integration for the overall flexibility of using a third-party app in that respect.  I'm not usually a big fan of propriety when it comes to technology.

his phone is pretty close, never seen one but the retina on ipod just seems perfect

and is some one saying i devises now support flac?  thats pretty cool except there flash memory is hugely overpriced and even 128gb isn't allot of space... we need an ipod touch that looks like an iphone but has a cheap 1tb hard-drive and extended battery.. AND creative sound blaster sound with more durable parts.  But that would last me around 10 years before I'll need another one D:

On the flip side, my Nano has been stepped on, dropped, washed, dried, thrown, shut in car doors, and spent the rest of the time in my left pocket.  In South Texas, it gets very hot in the summer and even hotter inside of your car, and mine's seen plenty of those days in the car to no ill effect.  It's probably had some other abuses as well.  I take no care of the thing whatsoever, and I expect to be able to treat an .mp3 player like that.  Other than battery fatigue, it's been flawless.  The screen cracked once when I stepped on it maybe a year ago but it's still very legible, and the touch screen works flawlessly.  Overall, I have to hand it to Apple for making a rugged little .mp3 player a little larger than a stamp that can handle so much blatant abuse.

I'll definitely be snagging another 6th Gen Nano on the cheap as soon as the 7th Gen has been on the market for a few months.

To say iPods are shit is quite wrong based on my experiences with them.  As far as their price, please, go ahead and name ONE other DAP on the market that has even close to the features, form factor, and ease of use of an iPod.

There isn't.

That's all I use mine for as well.  It's also why I'm opting for a used/refurb'd 6th Gen Nano as opposed to the new 7th Gen they just released, since the only changes are additions I'll never use.  There's still nothing else on the market with a nice touch screen like Apple's, and nothing with the awesome interface the iPods have.  Not to mention, Apple has the market cornered on form factor.

But I'm not gonna lie:  My main love for my iPod is that it's so simple that I can operate it with ease even when I'm tripping balls.  Simple, picture-based touchscreen UIs FTMFW!

Yea the shuffle I have is the old white stick one, still kickin.  I grinded a handrail and fell flat on my pelvis and it landed right beneath me, probably took 200+pounds of force, but it's like landing on a lighter, nothing happens to it.
