To be honest...I am somewhat surprised by the answers that were posted, they were for the most part pretty objective. I fully expected each person to instantly say 1 specific country and only then, find the evidence to back that up.

One thing is certain. The US ended the war. Without the US the war may have gone the other way. The Russians obviously sacrificied the most with their horrid loss of life.

Let's see, the USSR not only defeated Germany, but they also attacked Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and killed off large parts of their own population in Russia and Ukraine at the same time as they were "defending" them. They attacked and almost defeated Finland too. Britain and the USA on the other hand only defeated Germany, and avoided defeating innocent countries along the way. So at least they were less confused about their priorities.

They did defeat Finland. Finland surrendered and signed a peace treaty in march 1940.
