Tax free?  But the US taxes overseas earnings AFAIK.  Maybe you are Canadian?

I've seen you post a bit about it over the years.  Sounds like a great deal man, I'm a little envious.

I'm American, I just hadn't thought of that.  I never filed a tax return while living in South America, but then I didn't put my paychecks in an American account.  I just googled it, but couldn't find great information.  It seems it's likely you would have to pay some % in U.S. taxes if you're earning that much, and especially if you plan to invest that money in U.S. real estate.  I would probably keep it in a Saudi account and not file, since I don't plan to live in the U.S. in the near future anyway.  But yeah, I guess it's not quite as advantageous an arrangement if you're saving to buy a house in the States.

I have no problem depositing money in overseas accounts and the like.

The US is a bitch about taxes compared to other countries in this regard.  Even if you renounce your citizenship and move away you are still technically liable for taxes on earning for up to 10 years IIRC.

I have a deep fear of taxes because I don't understand them at all beyond the basical W-2.  I worry that I'm somehow going to get caught in a Kafka situation of being detained and/or forced to pay huge fines for tax evasion or some more obscure pecuniary offense.

My biggest goal now is to own a house someday.  I'd say I have a 50/50 shot at it.

You have an advanced degree in mathematics, right?  If you bit the bullet and taught math in Saudi Arabia for two years, you'd have enough pay a large amount up-front on a nice house.

Physics, but I have taught engineering level math before.  Saudi Arabia huh?  Not gonna happen, I have a family here and my wife has a career.  But I wonder how much are you are talking for two years?

The notion of teaching in a Latin American country has always been in the back of my mind...

Probably in the range of 300k - tax free. Possibly more - depending on where you teach and how prestigious your alma mater is.

It's possible, I've seen the ads, but those positions are very competitive and usually require some teaching experience in one's home country.

I want to get stuff done and have a lot of fun doing it. I hope to laugh a lot, be outside, meet people, travel, etc.
