If you can't afford to take it to a real veterinarian, rather than asking for help in the Shroomery's Pub, you shouldn't have the damn animal.

eh, i disagree. sometimes shit is so easy to take care of, a vet isn't required. Now if OP changes the topic to include chinchilla, he might have some luck as I know there is someone here that breeds them. perhaps he can help..

got a black light?

http://www.ehow.com/about_4609291_causes-chinchillas-hair-loss.html
says you can identify it with a black light.

i am going to assume its ringworm assuming theres no reason for it to be stressed out or anything.

The Edge... There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others- the living- are those who pushed their luck as far as they felt they could handle it, and then pulled back, or slowed down, or did whatever they had to when it came time to choose between Now and Later. But the edge is still Out there.

It could be anything. Doesn't look like ring worm to me. You need to either take a scraping into a vet so they can see what it is or take the animal in and let them do the scraping. They don't need to be an exotic species vet to look at a skin infection.

Thing is, no one here can just look at the pic and tell you what to do.  They can give you opinions, sure, maybe even educated ones.  But if you care about your pet you should take it to a doctor.

Chinchillas are becoming more and more popular as pets. A normal veterinarian could probably take help you take care of the issue, especially since it seems like a skin condition. Good luck and I know how adorable those things are.  :yesnod:

not a vet by any means but check this out http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081202043158AAblFg3

if the other chinchilla isn't showing any signs of ringworm i may be a little hesitant to call it that since its contagious

do you notice them going at it pretty intensly?
and if so
can you separate them to see if it gets better?
