Why do people hate Nickelback so much?

Just after posting that music is not dead in another thread I think this will make me lose credibility.

Oh well :rolleyes:

I don't get the hate for this band. They have some decent stuff and some other really cool songs. But I've heard americans comparing them to Justin Bieber.

The only answer I could come up is because they are canadians.

This kind of reactions are exactly what I don't get. You are comparing Nickelback to hitler. As a joke, but still.

I hate Nickelback because they have a generic and pretentious sound. The vocalist grinds on his voice in a way that is predictable and cliche. The songs are unoriginal rehashed "modern classic rock" bullshit by design.

They're "not that bad" from a technical point of view, I admit. But they are terrible from a cultural point of view, if that makes any sense. Being "not that bad" is not justification. That's like saying you don't mind eating ketchup on spaghetti. You could fucking do it, but it's just a bunch of generic crap. Why not make a decent meal?

They are the epitome of mediocre. The fact that they did not attempt to transcend that level of expression, but rather chose to capitalize off of the mediocre-minded, is the epitome of why they catch so much flak.

To me it seems like it's been a fad to hate Nickelback for a few years.  Like it somehow validates one's personal musical taste to dis on them.

In my opinion there are plenty of bands like Nickelback that don't get nearly as much hate, but the bandwagon is already rollin.

I don't care for them, but I don't care for a lot of bands.  I don't think I hate any though.  Hating on music you don't even want to listen to seems exhausting :shrug:

might be because I don't like soft rock, modern rock or w/e at all, but I don't hear the difference between them and the other bands of the same genre :shrug:

You are right, there are plenty of bands that sound like them and deserve as much flak. And if they got to the level of notoriety that Nickelback has undeservedly attained, I believe they would catch said flak.

It's a fad to hate Nickelback because it's an even bigger fad to listen to them. Pick your camp.
