For the authority/government bashing: introducing Hanlon's Razor
    #16008605 -

Hanlon's Razor is an eponymous adage that reads:

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

I think this can sum up a lot of war making, fear-mongering, and cognition exploiting by those in political power. There are obviously violent and power hungry tendencies in every human, but I think a lot of the problems in the world just boils down to sheer stupidity rather than malevolence. We all tend to treat government as if it's this independent object we can analyze and manipulate, when in fact it's an emergent/composite phenomenon that is born from humans. Where we find flaws in people we'll find them in government - and vice versa.

Just a nifty term I thought I'd share.

Sure. There are a lot of stupid people in the world. And that stupidity is taken advantage of often. But if you're suggesting the current state of affairs in our world is solely the product of stupidity and not the concerted efforts of high-level elites... I'm sorry but I just have to laugh at you.

But the reason those high level elites can control the plebes and proletariats is because so many of us are morons, and easily manipulated.

That is known as panem et circenses, Latin for 'bread and circus games.' It's "a metaphor for a superficial means of appeasement." Wiki

Thanks for sharing, it definitely puts a twist on the perspective of authority/govt. bashers.

I would imagine that stupidity runs in the majority. Perhaps even 99% of the population of USA alone. I don't know, but considering the 2012 candidates, etc., it would appear that way.

However, I did hear that George Bush is actually pretty smart, but he just used his appearance of stupidity to manipulate people.

Who knows with all the alex jones, :ancientaliens: and the medium sized black op helicopters flying by.

I agree on this point. People put far too much faith in a system that they believe is inherently corrupt, and a lot of those same people feel comfortable inside themselves believing that there is a sophisticated hierarchy of control, while outside blaming all of the worlds problems on a superficial view of an 'Illuminati' or 'New World Order'.

I personally don't believe this, as I don't think there is a direct hierarchy of 'control', but a much more complex system of human behavior that is both easily manipulative and impossible to manipulate at the same time. People look at a crowded city where people aren't killing each other and ripping each others heads off and can't help but believe that there is someone at the top of the pyramid, whether that be the idea of a personified human god or the presidents puppet master as an actual human entity, controlling all of this in a very direct and calculated way. However I feel like this world view fails to see that the human mind in each of us is self organized through everyone else's mind, and that it does not need one person to operate.

There certainly are hierarchies of power, but they do not hold as much power over the flow of human consciousness as we are led to believe, and it certainly does not lead up to one specific group or person of ultimate control. Is this world view perhaps a byproduct of western philosophy? Why are we mentally trained from birth to see a hierarchy in everything, when the world is very fractal in it's nature? I suppose it could be argued that the hierarchies are fractal as well, but they feel so unnatural and man made. It's kind of awesome to think about.
