LISTEN. I get it. We do not need to do this as it is not needed whatsoever (Male circumcision).

But what they do over in Africa is brutal beyond words man. How can you not see

I don't see anything errant.  :justdontknow:  Business infrastructure costs a fuckton of money.  Just looking at their sheets, the most surprising value is costs associated with film production but considering its effect on their donations, seems like a worthwhile investment.  Correct me if I'm wrong here; haven't taken an accounting class since college.

I hope you understand the organisation you are advocating.

The not-for-profit has come under fire for its own support of the Ugandan military, armed to fight Kony, which itself has faced accusations of rape, murder and brazen crimes against civilians.
In October last year the US announced it would send troops to Central Africa to aid in support and in November 2011 the US Department of State stated its concerns about Uganda's military.

There are also reports about 70 per cent of the organisation's income goes to film making, salaries and travel expenses.US-based Charity Navigator gives the group a low two-star rating for lack of financial accountability.

While kony needs to be removed, id be careful who you blindly send money to, and ASK OTHER PEOPLE to send their money to

Links?  Let me provide a few of my own.  So what if they have spent money on movies and other "non-primary" stuff.  Clearly from how viral their movies have gotten, it seems to have been a good investment.

No where in that report does it state the Ugandan military is engaging in the things you describe.

As for Kony 2012, all I can say is it's a goddamn shame that a group as inefficient as Invisible Children is the one to "help the children."

I'm not saying that the cause isn't a righteous one, because some sort of intervention is most certainly in order, but do we really want these people to be the ones helping? The money raised needs to be going to the best use possible, and I just can't see that they're doing that. I understand there are operating costs, and if I could see the costs laid out then I may be more lenient, but there's no transparency here and that leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth.

Interesting read, thanks for posting.  I too would appreciate greater transparency :thumbup:  I am, however, pretty unconvinced by the article.  If the military's "widespread" rape and pillaging was as bad as the LRA's, why would none of this appear in the Dept of State's report?

I'm not there and therefore I couldn't even begin to make an educated guess. What I can say is that there is a violent, ongoing revolution occurring in Bahrain that is heavily underreported on and has been all but ignored by the U.S. So, at this point, I'm incapable of being surprised by our leaders' antics and wouldn't in the least be surprised to learn that someone "accidentally" left that tidbit of information out of official documents.

I sighed heavily when I read this. Its hard to imagine the thought process
of our "leaders". Logic would be scarce.

Joseph Kony isn't the only bad guy over there, don't forget to learn about the other side too, the Ugandan government/army that U.S. troops are helping.

Some of the Ugandan government and army's actions: arbitrary searches, arrests, and unlawful detentions, widespread torture of prisoners and civilians, (willful) use of lethal force on civilians, the deportation of 1700 Rwandan refugees, intimidation and harassment of political dissenters, looting and destruction of private property, forced labor in prisons, harsh penalties for homosexuality, as well as a law giving the government much much more discretion of domestic surveillance than the PATRIOT act in this country.

Yes, Jospeh Kony is a terrible man and should be brought to justice, but that video is pretty biased and gives a very narrow perspective of the situation over there.

On a note unrelated to all the offtopicness, I just watched the Dutch national news on primetime, and lo and behold: mr Kony's mug was on there, including what he's done and that he's wanted by the Tribunal.
