No offense to those that watch them, but the government should ban them instead of drugs because they cause brain death.

The themes always seem the same....the characters..usually a slutty girl, a middle aged loser who can't get laid, and a fat black kid or woman who people think are funny.  In fact, i dont even own a TV...thankfully.  See my dad watching them all hypnotized sometimes with a dumb ass grin on his face...

And funny?  If they were funny, they wouldn't need corny-ass canned laughter going "huh-huh ha-huh-ha" every times people speak.  Canned laughter supposed to mean it's funny.  Just sayin....

Dude, I agree. I've been hating on sitcoms for years but I feel like a very small minority.

Sitcoms are retarded, and most action/drama shows are too, and documentaries are starting to be really retarded too.

I might stop watching TV all together.

Most sitcoms are terrible, but there are a couple good ones IMO.

Also, most sitcoms are actually filmed in front of a live studio audience, ie the laughter is often not canned.

I do often wonder if the audiences are buttered up, though...

Probably the last sitcom I ever watched, and I do enjoy watching those reruns on occasions. Then again how long has that been off the air?
Sure I grew up watching Cheers and Night Court but in these days I have not watched any sitcoms. I have tried to watch a few that where supposed to be good but alas... they are crap. I have given up on all of em.

The sitcoms these days are crap IMHO.

People kept telling me to watch Modern Family...I mean they raved about it like it was the end all for all sitcoms. Said it was genius.

Well, I only watched one, so granted that's a tiny sampling -- but I wasn't feeling it whatsoever.

That was one of the ones I watched a few episodes of when it came out too.Everyone raved about it saying how funny it was.

The one sitcom I feel I can say is universally great is NewsRadio. It's a shame Phil Hartman died before it finished its run.

It's not that the content is necessarily bad... there are some good shows, and I download those. It's the advertising I can't stand. The tactics they use are nauseating to me.

News networks are also completely worthless, you're better off watching soap operas...

I just watch Netflix these days. Its much nicer to select the shows YOU want to watch & not deal with any advertisements/news.

It makes you enjoy sitcoms more, like recently we just got through 4 seasons of 'My Name is Earl' and my boyfriend and I loved it. You enjoy it more when you're not pressured to think its 'current', 'hip', or targeted & marketed to you.

I've come to the conclussion that all tv is moronic, every once in a while there is a gem though. This thread reminds me to cancel cable, shit is too expensive and the content too shitty. I haven't turned the box on in over a month.

I can't believe cable is still priced that way when Netflix exists and so many shows can be streamed (albeit still with shitty advertising) for free online.

Yeah, we don't even have a TV hooked up at our house. If we want to watch something, we just watch it on the internet.

I agree that most sitcoms are retarded, but there have been some good ones too.
