OIa folks!
ok. i got my dirty hands on a school grade microscope, nice, 3 different settings, red green and yellow i beleive.( could be wrong, i'm at work, and don't have it handy)
I've used them before in Bio class to look at onions, pretty cool stuff..
It does not have a light.. wich i thought to be strange... but i can see light thru it.
My question is as follows...
Can i tell what variety of psilocybe Cubensis ( spelling... i know. sorry ) i have ex: tapalpa, EQ, Wollongong... etc.... i mixed up my syringes from the get-go. i've made my own prints a few times since then and no longer know what i've got.....
Do all PC spores have similar spore size shape etc.... or will they differ!!
I will soon know . but i need some glass slides wich i don't yet have...
( and no.. i did not steal it... it was given to me by a friend who did. and has not used it in 3 years!!... he figured i might! )

How does one measure the micron size of the spore in question..
there seems to be a needle looking thing withing the optic... i was wondering if that conresponded to a measurement of some kind...

The spores of different cubensis strains are practically equal. You can use the microscope to notice the differences between species not between strains.

I have access to optical microscopes at uni, up to 800x magnification. Would it take much preparation to view spores? Just put them on a slide with a drop of water? I might give that a go next time I remember.

I guess that means that one could pick almost ANY of the Ps cubensis strains for one's microscopy experiments !

Yeah -- that works. You can just put a drop af spore solution on a slide and dry the water on a hotplate on a min. heat setting. If you want you could also fix that in methanol and stain with trypan blue; makes them a bit easier to see.
