I don't think 'paradoxical' is the word you're looking for -- no reaction to a drug is really 'self-contradicting.'

The words 'unexpected' and 'counter-intuitive' would better serve your purposes, imho.

Various upper effects from taking benzos, Sleeping and feeling fatigue on amps, opiates giving me a headache, cocaine making me self-conscious.

Like you, I experience quite a bit of stimulation from thebaine derived opioids(hydrocodone/morphone oxycodone/morphone). As for others, I really can't name any off anything else other than caffeine. Occasionally I will feel tired after a dose of caffeine. Can't really explain it.

I think all pharmaceutical opioids are derived via thebaine. I think that even morphine is yielded via semisynthesis from thebaine because basically it's easy to breed plants that produce an exceptionally large amount of thebaine and it's easy to use chemistry to turn that thebaine into what they want. Pharmaceutical heroin in the UK may even use thebaine as a starting material.

opiates stimulate me like crazy to the point where I can't sleep. Most people I know pass out on them. I can nod off, but its impossible to get real REM sleep under the influence of opiates.
