I found several of these mushrooms on a lawn, in the pacific nortwest. A worthy note of them might be that they have a certain smell, one that is similiar to a common mushroom you would have in a salad. The gills in the photo look slightly random, but the gills are uniform to the stem and grow narrow towards the stem. The spore print is still printing and there are no visible spores yet. The gills seem to be a brownish/whitish color. The pencil in the picture is about 7 inches. Sorry for the crappy pics, but I will have a nice new digi camera soon.

The sporeprint turned out to be a rusty brown color. I am interested to narrow down whatever this mushroom is.

Given the whitish stem with what appears to be a ring zone I'll guess that you have a small, brown Cortinarius in subgenus Telamonia.
Quoting David Arora: "Other small 'Telamonias' are legion, especially under northern or mountain conifers. Even experts have difficulty differentiating them from each other and there is absoluterly no reason for the amateur to even try."
Even if we gave that specimen to Dr Ammirati (the expert in this hemisphere on Cortinarius), it's likely that he wouldn't be able to identify just one specimen, without lots of other information, to species. Unfortunately, even the best experts in the world can't identify some mushrooms you will find.
Happy mushrooming!
