How reliable are motor bikes??
    #15269509 -

Can expect to get at least 100,000 miles out of a brand new bike?

100,000 is alot for a motorbike, you have to keep in mind they only have two wheels, and a far smaller engine that works nearly 2-3 times as fast as well. it's a common misconception that motorbikes are cheaper to maintain, because they have alot more parts that need repairing or updating more regularly. front and back breaks, front and back tires, chain, clutch, battery (if your like me and always seem to be running flat batteries on your bike after its been sitting a while), etc

if you buy a sturdy sort of bike it should last for ages though as long as you treat it right and get it serviced regualrly.

but motorbikes are really dangerous to ride, and if you are thinking of getting one, its the sort of thing that you want to learn how to ride properly.

This, but take in account other careless drivers, shitty weather and road conditions, going to fast around a corner. And your life can end at that. Their cool, but even for the more experienced person, always gonna be a bit dangerous. My cousin passed away last year driving his. He had rode it for 6 years and rode dirt bikes most of his life prior. All it took was one of his wheels locking up on a bad corner with a guard rail. :frown:

edit: Sorry OP, not to discourage you or give you bad thoughts.
Just be careful.

its not about being clumsy though, like the bike weighs atleast a few hundred kilograms on its own, and you have to learn to balance the bike while your standing still. it sounds stupid that someones going to drop their brand new $10,000 bike, but it happens, almost so much that i'd say your prob going to drop your bike at some point. i dropped mine like 3-4 times. the times when its most likely to be dropped are abrupt stops or starts where you aren't ready or prepared to steady the bike, and once it starts to tip, it takes ALOT of strength to stop a few hundred kilo motorcycle from falling over, even if its only just started to fall. i've saved mine from falling a few times but fucked up my leg in the process because i just put everything into my leg and arms to rip the bike back upright again.

but there are a few options, you can remove the original fenders (the plastic outside bits) untill your confident with the bike , so that htere will be no cosmetic damage to your bike if its dropped. and also you can get these rubber stopper type things, that fit onto the bike and basically make it so when the bike falls, it lands on the rubber stops, the foot pegs and handle bars, so that you dont damage/scrape your fenders, dint your exhaust pipes or snap off the break or clutch pedals.
