buying a motorbike - help please!

hey shroomerites!
today i re-learned to ride a motorcycle, many years after using one to commute to work in Taiwan (where licenses, helmets, MOTs etc were irrelevant - for foreigners anyway). in the UK this involves taking one day 'Compulsory Basic Training', with lessons, carpark riding and finally road riding. You can choose to use an automatic moped or a geared motorcycle, so of course I chose the proper deal, as i wanna take this somewhere. After much self-doubt and a lotta help, I passed , and am eligible to ride on the road with L Plates. Yay!!!
so my muscles are aching, and now i gotta (wanna) buy a bike. the roolz sez up to 125cc, so i got my eye on a few models they had in the garage.....
Any input? I don't wanna buy a lemon.....

sounds like you really want to have fun on your bike... you should go higher than 125! start off with a 650 cruiser or something like that... you won't regret it. you might however regret getting a 125 or a 250 of course for beginners something small is definately good to start on, but you may be dying for more power in a few weeks when you get used to riding.
i too am shopping for a bike... i want it yesterday but i realize it's good to shop around... go to dealerships and check bikes out. test drive as much as you can! keep an eye on the classified ads as now is the perfect time of year to buy motorcycles. good luck!

Aprilia makes some good 125's i would get aprilia rs250 good power (2-stroke) and handels like a dream. this is a grey market bike i might get. aprilia doesnt import the street legal version here in the US since its not street legal (2-stroke over 50cc) but there are loop holes
my dream bike

sounds like the testing process is more extensive over there.. in the states it's 2 days in a classroom, 3 days riding the range, and you can get your liscence to kill yourself on a brand new crotchrocket

im not dogging on aprilia here or anything, there dam sexy and yea fast but they spend more on the looks then performance. id rather go for a jap bike. like kawasaki or suzuki if you read the stats for the new ninja zx10r the power to weight ratio kicks arse over any other but obviously you cant start off on a zx10r. (in aus you can start off on a 250cc)
