I think they should at least reduce government spending by the billions/trillions which they can do easy.  Cut government budgets by 10-25% and take our troops out of other countries. If we left some of the countries were in we'd save trillions right away.

Cut the milatary budget(we have a cold war budget with no cold war), make significant cut's to entitlements, end the drug war, bring in new revenue sources(drugs, gambling, prostituiton), and limit earmarking.
