Phoenix is a wasteland.  I lived there for seven years.  The summers are unbearably hot and the winters are sort of miserable too.  You can count on 3-4 months of really great weather in the fall and spring.

Phoenix is a sprawling area.  The neighborhoods along or in the mountains tend to have large houses with rich assholes and the valley is full of low-middle income hillbillies.  Other than that distinctions it is impossible to tell one neighborhood from another.  Minimalls, malls, and sports bars account for 95 percent of the metropolis's "culture".

As far as the economy, it is in the shitter.  The housing bubble was as prominent there as it was anywhere.  There are tens of thousands of brand new homes with nobody living in them.  The jobs are all service industry with ane mphasis on call centers.  University of Phoenix, American Express, Discover Card, godaddy all have huge call centers there.  Also, Arizona is a rite to work state, so if you are used to worker's rights, forget 'em

The one saving grace is that if you like to ride a bicycle, the canal system makes it possible for safe and easy travel pretty much anywhere.  Otherwise, you will need a car.  The bus / light rail is a goddamn joke.

That's all I can offer as far as info.  Oh yeah, and the cops!  Sheriff Joe has himself quite a team of fascists working for him.

If you end up moving there, make the best out of it and go to a Coyotes game...they won't be there for long and not many people can say they've been to the teams last season there (because no one goes to the games)

The weather in Phoenix is brutally oppressive.  Its not worth it IMO, even though the housing is cheap and the economy there is better than other places.  Now I live in Eugene and the housing here is outrageous and the best jobs are panhandling, but at least it rains and things grow.

i would agree the summer months can be a bit hot, and i live on the west side of the same desert.

think Los Angles except way the fuck hotter, traffic blows, dirty, lots of crime.

by the time you get there most of the hot weather will be gone, and fall/winter/spring are pretty sweet.
