Self discipline or self indulgence?
    #14569640 -

To me this is the big question. Is it better to hone yourself into a diamond like perfection through stringent discipline and self denial, until you can no longer be tempted or frightened because you have attained mastery over your own impulses

OR

To enjoy yourself as much as possible by indulging your desires to the greatest possible degree in such a way as to maximize your pleasure?

I just ate three ice cream bars.

Eat three more.  That diamond like perfection is a miserable illusion.

Say it's your impulse to be self disciplined, are you then not just indulging your self?

Both paths look like they go to the same place if you ask me. Go ahead and try to be a balls-out hedonist. Eventually you'll find you need some discipline just to be able to sustain your pleasure. Eat a cake right after eating a cake, and it doesn't taste good anymore. You need self-denial for a few hours before the second cake will taste good.

Conversely, austerities and self-denial are just time-delayed indulgence. They're always undertaken on the hope that somewhere down the line one might find "true happiness," AKA ultimate pleasure, AKA indulgence.

It's all the same shit. Each of us is a monkey masturbating to death in one way or another. That isn't wrong. There's no other way to do it. Chasing sense pleasure is not optional. It's the only thing the human brain knows how to do.

Sugar is evil it gives you cancer and diabetes and makes you addicted as hell, don't give in you will end up a fat loser fuck like so many others who suck at the tit of the sugar queen.

Look at all the fat slobs walking around with big gulp sugar slurpees, sticking insulin in themselves so they can mong out on candy without croaking then and there.

Discipline is the way to go but it can be hard. What would you rather be a shaolin monk or some fat sugar fiend?

Self-indulgence leads to being loserism, everything worth doing or being is fucking hard and requires hard work and self denial.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one here who makes brilliant but obvious observations on life.

I like to operate in between these extremes. I want to remain in control of myself but I don't practice self denial or self indulgence.

Yeah actually, you are. I stole your idea, that's all. You think I came up with that all on my own? Please. I was too busy masturbating.

I would say moderation is the key, Balance instead of extremes.

That monkey masturbation quote really is great.
