When to go looking in PA

hey, i wuz just wonderin when i should start lookin for any kinds of shrooms. i live in PA and its FINALLY startin to get warmer...its supposed to be in the 80's tomorrow so hopefully ill start finding things. it rained about 2 or 3 days ago and its been nice ever since. well anyway, BOTH of my next door neighbors have 2 horses each and i wuz wondering when i should start hunting? if i can get some gloves or a shovel im goin to try to steal some manure and hay and throw some on my lawn...carefully tho not to disturb the mycelium if there is any. well, r there any tips for me? i dont think many species grow in PA, mostly pan. subbs. and a few others. thanx all.

Start looking now (it's probably still a bit early) and keep looking each week.

I've found that you can usually judge the progress of the spring season fairly well by watching what plants are starting to leaf out or flower. If you check the fields and woods near where you live each week and keep track also of the green plants you should be able to judge in the future when it's still to early or if it's too late or whatever.

don't really think your going to find anything in PA but if you do, I would say start looking in early May when the cold fronts start to end for the summer.

I've got a tip even though I'm sure you won't like it- I don't really think stealing hay and manure will do much for you but if your going to do it then thats your business.

To me, if there were a few others besides Pan. Subbs- then it would be many species for PA- seeing as how far northeast it is in the U.S.

thanx guys..i have been checking some of the plants growing becuz ive been looking for species of phalaris grass but i cant really get many good pics to ID them by becuz they seem to look a lot different in every pic ive seen (ive looked at a few of each species) anyway back on topic. i mentioned stealing hay and manure becuz it just seemed like an option, not a good one but a possibility. i know Gymnopilus aeruginosus also grows around here but i dont know much about them. so i guess its off to research. thanx for the tips.
