Who here has a Rubik's Cube? Who here has solved it? All on your own?


I've had one for awhile and I still haven't solved it.

id honestly have a hard time believing somebody who said they solved it on their own

its all about memorizing algorithms, and once you got those down youll be able to do it everytime

my best time is around a minute thirty

I found a method and it only took me like a week to get down. My fastest time was like 1:20. I haven't played with one in a while though.

I had a friend in college that could do one in 20-25 seconds every time.  He was a wierdo though, and didnt interact much.

"The “riddle” of the minimum number of moves required to solve any configuration of the popular toy has stumped its users, and mathematicians, for almost three decades.

But now the team of researchers, based in Palo Alto, California who used Google computers, have discovered that any combination can be solved in no more than 20 moves.

Experts say this figure is known as "God's number", which is based on an assumption that even an “all knowing entity” could not solve the puzzle faster.

The results suggest there are more than 100,000 starting positions that can be solved in exactly 20 moves although the majority of solutions take between 15 and 19 moves to piece together.

The researchers combined the search engine giant’s computing power with mathematical expertise to check more than 43 quintillion (43,252,003,274,489,856,000 to be exact) possible jumbled positions the cube can take. "

I've solved it, using the instructions.  But once i learned the "steps", i can do it any time from any position - using hte same steps, and it takes anywhere from 1-2min.

:shrug:

Not really impressive ocne you know how, but it looks impressive to people who haven't tackled it before.

not hard.  buy one from walmart, they come with instructions.  Its a series of patterns you repeate until its done.  Each step is a pattern of moves.

Very simple.

I was too lazy to ever solve it on my own, but I used to have one around the house when I was a kid. One Christmas, my then 83 or 84 year old great grandmother was staying with us, and picked it up and started playing with it. Fast forward to later the evening of the same day and I found it on the end table, solved for all colors.

After asking around who did that, she said "did I mess it up? I thought all the colors were supposed to go together". I am pretty sure I was the only person around that would have thought to dissemble it and put back together solved, or even tried to pull off a trick like that. I honestly believe that she solved it herself. RIP granny Florence
