Well I have only just got into a few private trackers. Basically a private tracker will be invite only and may have open sign ups once a year or special occasions or just never. Some private tracker forbid the discussion or even mention of their names in open forums such as this. They tend to have strict rules about seeding and ratios. Better release times, quality torrents, and speeds that usually max out your connection.

Demonoid can be used if you keep your ratio up above 1.0 to request an invite from someone in another Private tracker. Since most private trackers will come down on the person who invited someone who did not follow the rules or maintain a ratio.

Not sure if that all made sense, I am kind of fuzzy headed this morning and someone just stole my water heater... wahoo getting a new one, no more 5 minute showers ending in cold water.

Oh yeah, http://www.reddit.com/r/trackers/ is a great place to find out news and info about trackers.

So at one point it was a private tracker and they just said fuck it? I definitely had to get an invite.

Nah, they are a pseudo private tracker. I also had to get an invite.
They have open registrations every once and a while but they give away invites like candy.

This just happens to be one of the times when they are open for registration.

Don't get me wrong it is still better than TPB or btjunkie and the other public tracker. The stuff you find on demonoid is rarely fake or loaded with viruses, and if they are they get pulled. I think that is the big selling point for them and it is also kind of a stepping stone to go on to "real" private trackers.

I mean they don't even give a shit about ratios. They apparently don't even have the technology to correctly track ratios.:shrug:

I've had a Demonoid account for like, ever, and I still really only use The Pirate Bay.

It's rare that I can't find what I want there (TPB) and I have literally never had a problem with a fake or virus-laden torrent there.

It's not very hard to read the comments to a torrent and find out if it's legit.

Demonoid is just way too limited for me, in terms of content and seeders.

I just find that on demonoid you dont really have to even read the comments and stuff. I usually check the file listing and unless i see something weird, I know its safe. Ive been there for 3-4 years now and never have got a virus and ive downloaded my fair share of stuff (233 GB worth)

Yeah pretty much.
I still read the comments on games/programs to see what problems someone might have had while installing. Usually though it is lack of reading the directions.

Right, I know you can find things on Demonoid, but the number of seeders on TPB blows Demonoid out of the water, at least for the things I download.

My girlfriend uses Demonoid for a bunch of flash games that she likes, as well as music.

I download almost exclusively PC games and new movies, and there is literally nothing out there that you can't get faster on TPB than on Demonoid.

What.cd  has a interview process, so if you don't have a invite you can still get in. The thing is you really have to be into music and know a good amount of knowledge when it comes to torrents, encoding and blah blah blah... The thing there is once you start getting into private tracker which as I said before demonoid is kind of a stepping stone you can then start to get into other private tracker. You want speed on a download? Private trackers will almost always max out your conection even if there is only one seeder because that one seeder is probably a seed box. Meaning someone is paying for an of site server that does nothing but upload and download and then the user download of there seedbox.

If you are happy with public trackers and demonoid that is fine, I was for years, hell since the bittorrent protocol was created. Besides good private trackers have one heck of a community also.

off, of, what ever... to drunk to fix them.

Really the private tracker thing is just a big game... play it right and you will get into one that suits your needs.
