Plaster of Paris vs joint compond
    #13841529 -

For anyone who has never worked with plaster of paris, be aware it is the shittiest substance on earth. Why? because it hardens in 25 minutes no matter what. Figure you spend 5 minutes mixing it, so you got 20 minutes, and once it starts to harden, you can't do shit with it.

I got it instead of a tub of joint compound because it was cheaper and I thought it would last longer. It did end up being cheaper, but it took like 4 batches just to tape a basic closet. It gets fucking EVERYWHERE.

Anyway, just figured I'd let you guys know, cause I sure as hell wished someone had let me know...

Why did you even use plaster of paris?

I like that quick set fast harden shit. I can get that shit done and be out of there in a day then. Just have a scoop to measure powder and a water cup the right size then you can rock out a room fast. If you learn to leave it high and sand right before it reaches hardness but when it is set enough not to clog the screen you can sand it in a few swipes making it look awesomely flat. I don't like doing any drywall shit so I like to find ways to make it go fast without sacrificing on how it looks. The shit is harder to sand if you let it fully harden before you start sanding so the first time of two you use it just use it on the taping and first pass.

Because I didn't know it would harden up if you kept adding water. I thought it was just less expensive because you had to mix it yourself.

I did start sanding before it was fully hard anyway. Going to go back over it with joint compound. Not really looking bad... just a huge fucking pain to work with.

I fucking hate walls. The joint compound was real real think - I ended up using my fingers to smoosh it into the cracks.

Looks pretty shitty, just going to sand it and do 2 coats of paint I guess =/
