Can you use 6500k T8 bulbs to start weed?

I needed a light for my closest. They had this one for $70, which wasn't much more than the cheapest one they had period. 6, 32 watt T8 65k bulbs - that work for weed or you need special grow-bulbs?

I use CFL lights. Idk what T8 is though. But you don't need HPS or MH lights and all that to grow, even if they're typically seen as the way to go, I've gotten some impressive yields with CFL lights. They're cheap as hell too.

You don't need to spend more than $10 on a CFL 6500k bulb.

Absolutely, that is a great light system for starting seeds/veg.... please dont listen to someone who knows nothing of lighting.... there is a reason what you have is 80 and the cfls' are cheap... you will get a TON more lumens out of what you found as opposed to regular cfl's.... cfl's also make really airy loose buds so i reccomend at least a 150 watt HPS for flower. Generally T5's are suggested for veg, T8's being slightly more powerful. i say go for it!

Woah woah are you saying I don't know what I'm talking about? I've been growing for over 2 years throughout the whole year and half of that with CFL's and I get the best fuckin weed around with it. YOU don't know about growing apparently. There's more to bud quality than lights dude.

Friend english is not my first language so i appologise if i sound stupid but judging by your username you were born in 91.... wel friend it looks like ive been growing weed twice as long as you have been alive. and stores actually do sell lights for growing, find yourself a quality hydro store and they will have absolutely everything you need!

Actually the 91 has a different meaning which I don't need to explain right now..Yeah I'm still young, I'm 21 but it doesn't mean a thing how long you've been growing. If I had been growing for 3 months and CFL worked great that is all the proof I need. Yeah I know high pressure sodium and metal halide is allegedly the only thing worth using, but my results show otherwise, just gotta tweak the technique a bit.

If I felt like spending more money I'd most likely be using those lights, but I'm cheap and more than happy with what I've gotten with CFL's. Think of it this way..I have a friend from Cali who is an MMJ patient and chills with me when he visits his family here, and he fucking loves my buds. :bigjoint:

And no I don't get airy buds. With CFL all you have to do is put the light closer to the plant than you do with other lights.

Easy guys not meaning to start a war. Just doing a closet revamp and wanted to add a light. Just thought it would be cool if it also worked for weed - never try to veg under the thing, but being able to keep plants in your closet can't be bad.

I mean no anger by my words, i just have personal experience with those panels and they are absolutely amazing they have the same amount of lumens as about 20 cfl's and its alot easier to get the one panel above plants than 20 cfl's!... plus the energy cost is actually a bit cheaper than the cfl's would be. i have done many a cfl grow as well friend and though the bud is just as tasty and delicious as its HPS breathren, i just personally do not like the loose buds i like my buds to be tight and full, saying all this i absolutely would not reccomend using that panel to flower! cfl's would be better to flower with because you can place them in different spots for buds, i agree you can get the same quality buds with any set up, but wouldnt you rather have a pound or two of that amazing bud? the most i have gotten from a CFL only plant was 2 ounces dry weight vegged for 5 and a half weeks, i completly believe you could get way more but once again that is all ive gotten. with my 600 watt hps i have gotten 1.4 pounds with a turn around time of 7 weeks to harvest!

just saw your post to airy buds, and its impossible to get as full buds with cfl's as hps.... i have tried and tried with lights being as close as .5 inches on some really hardy strains.... i promise you just cant get the dense buds like when using a HPS

Come on man..there's proof of it. I clone my best plants so that has a lot to do with it. If you really want to you can just chalk it up to me being lucky. I respect you as a veteran grower..but you can't sit there and tell me that my plants are airy when I'm smokin the shit right now. See, I'm not saying CFL is the best..I'm saying you can get just as good of yields and quality with them under the right circumstances. It's not only the lights, it's the strains and the individual genetics of the seeds as well, which I'm sure you know. I don't use a ton of CFL's for my plants either.

I have some 150 watt 10,000 lumen lights that work great. I've gotten around a pound as well with CFL, some of the reason had to do with the fact that I cloned a high yielding plant though, but CFL's aren't as shitty as people say. The dude Seemore Buds will prove that. So basically, I'm not telling him CFL is better, I was answering his question about whether or not you need special lights for growing. Sorry about the hostility. :thumbup:
