When you feel totally helpless and sad...
    #13791995 -

Where do you turn to to heal, to find patience? What brings you solace, or gives you hope?

What if those safe and comfortable places, people, or experiences that you've always relied on transformed into the very things that all of a sudden made you feel depressed and alone?

I usually just lay in bed and stare at the ceiling for an hour and I feel better.

I turn to myself. Self-reflection is my way of reconstructing my psyche.

How do you personally go about with self-reflection and reconstruction. Do you try and change patterns of behavior or your perception of things?

I would stop being such a tit and feeling sorry for myself and drag my mind out of that hole kicking and screaming. A feeling is just a feeling you have to embrace it to give it power.

sadly, my preference is drugs in these times.  exercise, thinking, and other shit can not dumb down my overactive mind the way that drugs can.

That's bullshit first of all, negative feelings are the result of a chemical reaction. The best way is to just sit and let it pass.

hitting up the gym and listening to music always helps me. and after a good lift, lighting up some blunts with friends and having some good conversations is the best.

We've all heard the typical regime of exercise, good diet and sleep, solid friendships, time and patience, etc.

There are various "techniques" as well including psychotherapy, anti-depressants, meditation, etc.

I was curious for more specificity and unique approaches to hacking our human bio-computer.

You got any proof to back that up other then those bullshit pharmaceutical studies that deal with depression, yeah if my other died or someone close to me died I wouldnt be able to do anything but feel sad but other then that you are in control of your own feelings of sadness there is no one saying you have to be sad there is no chemical flood or absence of any neurotransmitters that make you feel sad or depressed. There are people with disorders that make it so they have next to nill serotonin production they are not living life all mopey and severely depressed.

Just as the body regulates my temperature and flow of oxygen to the brain it regulates the chemicals that deal with emotions. How do you think drugs work?

trying to hack your human bio-computer will lead you to a mental institution. acceptance and moving forward is what you need to embrace.

Well, first, i must understand the components of my depression. What exactly am I upset about it? How does that object affect me? How is that object related to me? Why does this object depress me? How did I cause this object to control my emotions? etc.
Once I outline my problem, i seek solutions. How can I get rid of this object? How can I get rid of its emotional hold on me? How can I move on? etc.
After I figure out a solution, I seek change. I change particular facets of my life that might coincide with the object, i.e. my attitude, my beliefs, my daily routine, my friends, etc. Whatever it takes for me to move on.

Example:
I was in  complete fucking rut after my last relationship ended up in the shits. I'd cry for weeks at night, like a starving baby. I knew I had to move on. My solution was to forgive myself and to forgive the situation. I had to forgive myself because I kept blaming myself for the break up. I also learned to accept her stance on being single because if i truly cared about her i'd want her to be happy, even if it's not with me. After a couple months of reconstructing my life (focusing more on school, working out, eating healthy, making new friends), I was finally ready to let go.

Not really. We regulate, modify, exploit, normalize, adjust, and tweak our minds and bodies in countless ways. According to the individual there should be strategies for coping with sadness that are more efficient than others.

Moving forward is definitely the issue, it's a matter of what behavior and attitudes best facilitate that process.

Whenever I experience negative emotions, I just look at it as if I caught a cold--it's a temporary disease, and it will pass. Looking forward to positive emotions helps me drive forward through the muck.

That's just about the worst thing that could happen to someone, I'm not sure what I would do if it happened to me. I'd probably just wait until shit got better.

It's one thing to simply enjoy a style of life that one enjoys, but it's another thing altogether to refer to another person's choice as "wrong" or to rationalize their behavior as being pathological or resulting from some sort of inadequacy or failing so as to create a sense of superiority or separation as yet another projection of a personal fear or control issue.

And just as you can regulate the temperature of your body through tumo or self regulate your breathing you can regulate your emotions. How do you think something like simple meditation can lead to intense feelings of well being.

Where do you draw the line?

So the chemical reaction in your brain that causes almost gauranteed sadness or grief at the loss of a loved one is not the same one that happens when you lose your cat, get fired from your job or get shut down from some girl you approach?

I truly believe that thinking positive and all that jazz can definetely help.

I find it a little ignorant to not aknowledge that our brains and body are made up of chemicals and their interactions with one another.  Chemicals make up our food,  plants, and life in general.

The power of suggestion only goes so far in my opinion
