I have dandruff.

And due to consumption experiments, I now believe that it is caused by alcohol consumption.

When I don't drink for a week, it seems to disappear, but the day after drinking 1 beer, it will come back.

I don't even drink that much. Only to get wasted at parties every weekend or so...

I'm so torn on this. What should I do? Continue to drink and always wear a hat and be self conscious? Or quit drinking and let my beautiful locks be seen by the world, flake free?

pretty sure dandruff has nothing to do with alcohol, so rest easy that you can continue drinking yourself stupid

I don't accept information like this because I believe almost everything we experience in this universe to be subjective (not to a major degree in most cases).

Trust me, I've researched dandruff for YEARS trying to get rid of it. It would come and go, but so would my alcohol consumption. I've put it in my own hands to figure out what it is based on personal experience.

Doctors don't even know what causes dandruff. I've been prescribed 2 different dandruff medications by 2 different dermatologists, and neither have worked. I've used 4 different anti dandruff shampoos.

I've read that dandruff is caused by a scalp fungus, so I got RAW tea tree oil (anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, as are all essential plant oils) and rubbed it on my scalp for awhile. I had my hair grown to 18 inches as a teenager and cut it off due to dandruff. This last year, my hair was 12 inches before I cut it off because I could not withstand the battle with the flakes.

I went on a raw food diet because I also read that dandruff is caused by what you eat. This helped (I believe because I stopped drinking). But then I started drinking on the diet, and BAM, flakes everywhere - even in my thick eyebrows.

So I'm pretty sure that while that post may describe a dandruff situation of other people, it does not apply to me.

Shower daily and use some dandruff shampoo. I use Head & Shoulders.

Already do. Sometimes I'll walk out of the shower with still-wet hair and have flakes all over it.

Also, I'd like to thank everyone in this thread for their advice, even if I deny it outright

I used to have dandruff until I started using shampoo with coconut extract in it. I bought a $1.50 bottle of Suave Tropical Coconut shampoo and it completely controls it. It contains coconut extract. Coconut kills the fungus which causes dandruff. Cost much less than medicinal-type shampoos and smells good too.

I also use Jason Tea Tree shampoo.

Damn dude. Not to bash your washing technique, but I'm assuming you really dig your nails in and don't leave a spot unscratched, right? I wash my hair once with dandruff shampoo then once with Suave Smoothers kid's shampoo. It gets that bar soap skin feeling off your hair that dandruff shampoo leaves.

Tgel shampoo is good. Also having long hair, especially in the winter has always been brutal on my scalp. To counter this I always make sure to blow dry my hair in the winter. When you step out of the shower the evaporating water drys out your skin because of the cold, dry air. When you have lots of long, wet, hair the process gets exacerbated to the point where your scalp can crack and bleed. I don't know if your dandruff is caused by this, but blow drying my hair fixed the issue for me.

I never use my nails, because I used to and it would result in very painful open scalp cuts and scratches that would scab over. I massage the shampoo over every inch of my scalp and physically massage my scalp to get blood flowing into my hair follicles.
