iphone help

so i just got an iphone yesterday after having a crappy $30 go phone for 6 months after breaking my original iphone. i wasn't informed that by upgrading, they signed me on for another 2 years, and they got rid of their unlimited data plan... wtf? the max data plan is 2GB plus tethering, which is a service it didn't sound like I would ever use.. so now i have to be very careful as to what I update, how often I check my email, and pretty much anything that uses data. I've already used 200MB in data in two days.. this is retarded. does anyone know anything about data usage? is both sent data and received data counted in the 2GB limit? does simply searching on safari or using the maps app use up data?

It's common across the board to lock you into a contract when you "upgrade" to a new phone.  Cell phone contracts can be somewhat complex so just be sure you know what youi're getting.

I'd return it.  Verizon releases their iphone in early February, and I believe they'll have an unlimited data option.

Yeah, the reason i got this one now is because the upgrade to a 3G S iphone was only $49... Maybe when verizon has their unlimited plan, AT&T will have better, competitive options...

Maybe.  But if you don't return your phone you'll be locked in a contract by then so it won't matter.

Yes, yes and yes.
Even when the phone is idle and you have cellular network open you use data.

Try connect to WiFi as often as possible. I only have 150mb/month but I'm on WiFi most of the time so it doesn't matter to me.

That's why you get an unlocked iphone on a better network.

Fuck AT&T and Verizon, their plans are terrible and way overpriced.
