Because it doesn't have to be anywhere near as much as a woman to be excessive for a man.

If you're a dude and cry at your father's funeral, for example, that's pretty normal.  If, however, you ex-girlfriend says a bunch of hateful shit to you and you cry about alone in your apartment, you're probably damaged goods.
