26. Not quite a kid. I was born and raised in the mountains. I hunt and have no problem taking care of myself in the wilderness. Being able to survive alone in the woods with completely nothing is one thing. Being prepared in an anything goes scenario is another story.
Well, lets look at 2 possible causes of a global apocalypse and their effect on you.
1) Nuclear war - Even if you weren't directly in a strike zone, there would still be problems with residual radiation for decades to come, leading to some rather unpleasant health effects. And let's not forget the effects of nuclear winter, where all the gas and dust thrown up by the bombs (and the next possible nuclear war will be a doozy - make no mistake about that) causing a global cooling, so even if you survive the effects of residual radiation, the cooling effect may cause an ecological collapse
2) Pandemic disease - a disease that wipes out a goodly proportion of humanity would probably be highly infectious and easily transmissible. What makes you think you'd dodge this bullet? Even if you hightailed it to the wilderness, it could be carried by the wind.
And of course, with both scenarios, you'd have to worry about other humans who may want to eliminate you, either to lessen competition for food and resources or just for fun. People can be shits in general, and with no laws or anyone to enforce them, watch out.
So, even if you're well prepared, a planet-wide disaster will still effect you, probably negatively. Only a very lucky few would survive, if at all. So you see, you really don't want this.
