wow, i forgot the power that kava has. been on benzos and opiates for over a year fighting tolerance, addiction, and insomnia. now that kava is back in my life, all seems hopeful again.

What sort of prep do you use?

I personally go with half a cup of ground root, about a liter of water, and a teaspoon of lecithin. I let it soak for at least an hour, swish it up with a mini burr blender, and strain it through muslin.

that's how i used to make it years ago. takes about an hour though. i'm just using kava extract in capsules, and they really work. i always thought they destroyed something essential in the process, but this company knows their shit apparently.

I have tried kava extract tincture and was not impressed.  What company are you using?

I am currently trying to kick a 3.5 week oxymorphone/hydrocodone binge.:feelsbadman:

How are the effects from the kava brew?

Ive been drinking Kava Lately too. Found a cool website that has all kind of reviews on it too. http://kavasseur.blogspot.com/2010/02/more-kava-reviews-coming-soon.html

I just bought a bag of Solomon Kava and its pretty cool, but definitely have some music or some stimuli cause this strain can get kinda depressing (as the review says and im finding out). Ive tried some other strains too, and have one ive never tried coming in the mail. I use 1/2 cup of Kava root with 2.5 cups of water (1.5 cold, and 1 cup boiling). Let sit for 30 min, and stain.....dont forget to drink on an empty stomach first, not only for stronger effects but food with kava at the same time causes me some nausea at times. Some food after the effects kick in though dont cause me any problems.

Be sure to buy a strainer bag too (they are cheap). It let some of the finer material out without getting your sick. Definitely packs more punch. Dont drink the actual root itself though (made that mistake once). I never been so smashed in my life. Couldn't stop vomiting, and over all a horrible night

Stay away from extracts and shit.

Very nice, a subtle but noticeable effect that's has greatly helped me get my sleep architecture back in place, as well as providing a nice alternative to booze for the time being.

CollinZ, have you tried kratom at all? It's supposed to be pretty useful for mitigating opioid dependency, and though it carries its own wd's, they're not supposed to be as difficult as classic opiates.

Then again, I've never experienced opiate withdrawal, nor have I tried kratom.

It is, however, next on my list.

I have tried kratom and it is definitely an opioid.  I have had three month long binges fallowed by withdrawals a few times.  It's not really as bad as stronger opiates but I feel like if I tried to switch to Kratom I would just continue my habit.  I have been struggling off and on with opiates and depression for about a year now and at this point I know one is potentiating the other.  I just need to get away from all opiates and opioids for a while.

I have tried a kava extract that worked but I had to consume 5 dropper fulls of tincture.  I feel like it would really help with the w/d but I am too broke at the moment to order any thing worthwhile.

colinzzzz,you should replace your opiate with demerol and then after a week slowly back off until you only need one then none. it works with no withdrawl whatsoever. i was hooked on dilaudid, morphine, demerol, fentanyl, and pod putty. i was to the point where i was taking a lethal oral dose just to keep from getting sick. it was either time to quit or get on the needle. it probably helps that i have a large script for lorazepam too. kratom is good too but it costs alot per dose, but so do pills. the kava i am using is pharma kava by herb pharm. all other kava products were total shit before except for the shit i would order from kava kawaii.
