"the anticipation of QE2 has already made the dollar drop 10% and gold, silver and oil jump 10%.  bernanke and the federal reserve are conducting an experiment on the american people.  what they are doing today has never been attempted in human history.  it boils down to whether the authorities can cure a disease brought on by too much debt by doubling and tripling the dosage of debt. if this experiment fails, the dollar collapse and possible hyperinflation would lead to anarchy.  ben is confident it might work."

me, not so much.

If the PTB had just let the damn thing implode we'd be much better off in the long run. Allow the bad debt to clear and pick up the pieces. Of course few read history and most politicians don't have the guts to risk being voted out before the lag effect of responsible fiscal policy would take hold.

It would have been much better if we had a bailout for the debtors instead of the lenders.  The ancients used to understand the value of debt cancellation.  It's even in the Bible.  But of course we can't feed the host before we feed the parasites.  So, here we are.

Jubilee, wasn't it?

Yeah, power has become entrenched over time. Even in a "democracy".

Thomas Jefferson said a revolution was needed from time to time. The game has become rigged. And only the most brainwashed people can see that the markets are rigged. Our economic system is now socialism for the very rich and the very poor who are, as you rightly said, feeding upon the middle class which seems to be shrinking.

I expect you'll see two classes in this country soon: the rich and the poor.

Does not bode well.

This money printing is baaaaaaad!  Where is all this printed money going?!  What terrible effects is this having on us?  I know these policies aren't ideal, but it's not like we're experiencing hyperinflation.  This new money isn't doing anything.  It's just sitting on bank balance sheets and keeping the markets appeased.  Look at that spike in the adjusted monetary base, pictured above.  That looks terrible!

Surely they're siphoning off the wealth of the population through inflating away their wealth holdings!  Surely CPI and tbill rates were spiked.

Well, looks like a little spike in the CPI, but a equally large subsequent dip.  3mo Tbills go flat as fuck.  Other maturities look somewhat similar.  Well, then where the fuck is all this cash going!  What is it doing?!?!?!?!

Oh yeah.  Nothing.

Central economic planning distorts how time preference operates in the economy.  In a market that is free of central planning the liquidation of malinvestment occurs very quickly.  A free market operates to move towards a more efficient allocation of resources as quickly as possible.

The central planners in the government and banking system have a time honored tradition of preventing the market from clearing away the malinvestment that the central planners caused before the boom phase of the economic business cycle.

Observing current events we can only honestly conclude that the central planners reward the bad behavior of their friends in the economy while fleecing everyone else.

That behavior is not morally correct.

Morality forms the basis of a sound economy.

What does it look like in your area?  I am seeing a buildup of empty commercial real estate buildings with "for sale or lease" signs.  (Do you think some of the excess reserves might go into a commercial real estate bailout?)

Methinks a commercial real estate problem is brewing.

I seem to recall Yrat saying something about that some time ago.......

How many times does it take for free market economists to be proven right until people conclude that central economic planning is not part of a viable system that solves the problem of indirect exchange???

Does anyone have a good definition of insanity?

Speaking of insanity, that huge idiot bernanke just said that we don't have enough inflation. That's our real problem according to him and his solution is to create more. WTF??? inflation is already all but certain and will decimate the middle class when it hits. The rich who are unprepared will be devastated too but the super rich are already shifting wealth into solid assets. Bernanke was one of the authors of the economic collapse and he is pushing for the next crisis to happen. Obumble deserves a lot of blame but he is just following orders from his handlers.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

Have you LOOKED at the state of our economy/debt?  Do you know what its dire situation is a result of?

1.  Entitlements
2.  The expanding scope of the executive branch
3.  The poor health & medical spending habits of our citizens (not entirely our fault:  tax breaks on employee health coverage skews demand in favor of overconsumption,  pushing up prices).
4.  The Fed's low interset rates in the early 2000s paired with governmental policy that encouraged banks to make shittier loans.

Central bankers have done nothing lately except try to keep our economy from collapsing through systematically creating new money and injecting it into banks in hopes of rejuvinating the flow of credit in hopes of fostering growth.
edit:  new money which (might I add) has yet to lead to inflationary pressures (no velocity), and which has driven down the value of the dollar - which is desirable given our situation (see the other thread)

But think what you want

Translation: means thinks adding more debt is the solution to a debt induced problem.

It sure makes me feel good to know that the fed is there to "fix" the problems they created.

insanity...

I'm about 10% into physical gold, I'm thinking about going another 10% into silver just as a security net.

I'm all for it

Apart from gold and silver going up, they will at some point enter a bubble, probably quite prematurely.

If you think the gold bubble will be wild, the silver bubble will be craaa-zyyyy!

900 million ounces of silver, that's all there is.
900M x $24 = $21.6 billion. All there is in the entire world.

If you buy just 900 ounces ($21,600 at this weeks price) you got yourself 1 gram out of every ton of the ENTIRE ABOVE GROUND SILVER SUPPLY OF THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE. Not even a hundred thousand people could get this relatively small position in the entire world, even if they pay big big bucks

Get yours, it's gonna be epic.
