The Belgian government agreed last week to decriminalize the use of marijuana. Cannabis users will be allowed to use the drug for personal use providing the quantity possessed does not exceed 5 grams. They are also allowed to cultivate one cannabis plant.
Unlike its neighbor, the Netherlands, Belgium will not allow sale of cannabis in coffee shops. Smoking of cannabis in public and in the presence of minors remains illegal. Users who cause problems for neighbours will face prosecution.
Parliament approved the new drugs law by 75 to 40 votes, with four abstentions. The Belgian legislation is expected to be approved by parliament this year.
"We are establishing the basis for tolerance in the law, but our country will remain within the lines of international law" the government said in a statement.

yeap...
things in Greece are way behind, as only a small number of the members
of our parliament want to decriminalize MJ, all rest think that ALL 'drugs'
are the same, which means that they lead to death... IDIOTS!
Anyway
i just hope that things can only get better. but then i am informed that
PFanaticus are busted, so i am depressed again...

Haha - doubtful...maybe in the VERY distant future, but as far as legilizing MJ in the states...it's a damn long-shot

maybe if they realise they can tax it.
hell there done trying to charge me for killing myself they want cig taxes up by 2.00

High, I'm from Belgium and this proposal has been a lot in the media and in the news lately, but as far as I know, it isn't approved yet. I listen to the news every day, and it would surely be on the headlines if it was allready officially approved.
I will ask all my friends next time I see them. Maybe I missed it!!! Anyway, if it isn't officially approved yet, I'm sure it will be very soon. Many people are waiting for this new law a long time. Finally our government is using some common sense. (but far from always).
I hope that the rest of the world will soon follow and that this ridiculous war on drugs will end one day.

Even if you're only growing one plant you should get way more than 5 grams. WTF is that, some kind of twisted joke.

Do you actually think that they will search someone to see if his weed is more
than 5 grams? Com'on! This is just how laws are made, nothing more.
I think that the law isnt in effect yet, its a matter of bureaucratic signs
to make it out there... i hope its not a joke
