Honestly, I just don't understand the term 'slut'. I must first say I am a male, so don't assume I'm just some crazy feminist trying to get her rocks off of equality. But then again... females in an anonymous forum? 
I 'personally' believe the term came from men, who would rather have no competition when it comes to reproduction. I, again, personally believe there is no relevance to sex when it comes to reproduction: sex is for pleasure, reproduction is for the extension of ones geniality (did I say that right?). Promiscuity reduces a male's chance of being the sperm provider, therefore a term must be there for it! I love how males think of things.... Then you have, as said by #16 jealous women who have no problem keeping the word moving. See, they figured out that if they point out the most desirable one as a slut, men would rather take their chances with one without as much desirability, even though, genetically, they would be better off with the so-called slut. Now, there is the VERY rational debate that the physically desirable are not so mentally, but i am not trying to be specific in the idea of what one sees as desirable, be it physical or mental.
But, the attitude towards such women obviously hasn't changed for centuries, if not more. It could be possible that this is just some... instinctual mental concept. I don't know, but the definition of the term 'slut' has changed, so if it is just part of our nature, the attitude towards it is easily pulled around by what other people want you to think. Back in the 60's and 70's, in US, there really wasn't much of a problem with promiscuity, at least for the down-to-earth people, IMO. But, the term "slut" still existed, among the people that still clung to the 50's. That of course would contradict my previous concept a little, but it also shows that annoying barrier can be, at least partially broken down.
We live in a world that is getting strangled by one simple species that can't even get over bias and prejudice. We need a bit of competition to improve the species to at least improve the situation that will, eventually, be our demise. If we all decided to compete reproductively, the weaker genes would be wiped out naturally, and you would need a blood test (for the most part) to tell if you were the winner or not. Its time to stop caring if you're the superior one or not, its simple as that. Just be.
So. The question is not WHY are they so damn slutty nowadays, but WHY WEREN'T THEY so damn slutty back then?
