I got myself vaccinated the other day, thanks.
Ever read about transfer factor... giving a shot to a cow and drinking it's milk and gaining antibodies from it?
Well, imagine I'm the milk cow and my son is drinking my milk. k, thanks.

Who ever said I was a jenny mcarthy supporter?  I'm sure you just assumed that.

Oh, btw. I got the Tdap... covers whooping cough.

Thanks, and have a nice day.

I love how they use a picture of a child who is clearly a few years old when all the children who died were under 3 months of age.

Are you planning on breast feeding your son his whole life?  The majority of whooping cough cases are found in kids from 11-18 years of age.

By not immunizing your son, not only are you putting him at greater risk, but those he comes into contact with as well.  It may seem like the diseases that immunizations protect against are not very common.  Right now that is true, however if people continue to not get vaccinations for their children, they will become much more prevalent in the future.

I work in an Immunology lab, I have talked with many PHDs about vaccinations, and have read quite a few studies as well.  I will admit, if a new vaccine came out I wouldn't want to be one of the first people to try it, however, the standard vaccinations we have today have been studied extensively.  The doctors I have talked with want to help people, and they have had their own children vaccinated.

By not getting vaccinations you are exposing your son to REAL dangers, for the fear of unproven risks.  Not getting them for him is irresponsible, and not fair for your son or your community.

You know, you're right.  Medical Science, just like every other science is absolute truth.  People don't still discover new things every day.  Opinions don't constantly change as new things are learned.  The human body isn't sophisticated enough to have extensive cell memory that would be able to determine a friendly bacteria from an unfriendly one, and most definitely wouldn't remember any antibodies that it was given from its mother in the first year of life.

That said, I might just be a bit crabby right now because I took a shot on Friday.  I've already had these things and I know that I'm not allergic to them.  I'm extremely sore and at this point pretty glad that I didn't give this to my 9 month old.  He's trying to learn to walk and a shot in the leg would have probably made him a very unhappy person.  Not to mention that he wouldn't have known what the fuck was going on and I'd like to hold off as long as I can and be able to give him what vaccinations I do think are important when he's at an age that he'll be able to understand a bit better.

There are also many ways to cure many diseases with things such as herbs and even... MUSHROOMS.  And, the best defense against almost anything is eating well in the first place.  Which is why I'm starting my son early on good eating habits.  So, thanks for the advice.

How about you have some of your own kids and do things your own way instead of trying to prove to me that I'm so horribly wrong.  What's best for one person isn't what's best for all of them.  I'm not putting any one at some horrible risk.  Just because someone hasn't been vaccinated doesn't mean that they automatically catch every disease there is.  Just like vaccines don't necessarily prevent you from catching these things either.  You hope they do, but it doesn't always work.

Are you illiterate or just ignoring what was said? She has clearly done the research, the child is protected through transfer factor which the doctor said would provide the baby with the appropriate antibodies.

Rather than have her child deal with getting a shot and feeling like complete shit for a few days she took the shot and the feeling like shit that comes with it. I would say that is a pretty damn good mom. How many other mothers would do that for their child?  A lot of mothers today don't even breast feed because they would rather go out to the club and get wasted immediately after giving birth.

How about you all go and get the Tdap shot then come back in a few days and let us know how you feel? Then try to imagine what that must be like for a young child that doesn't know whats going on.

The kid is only protected while he is being breast fed.  And in actuality he would be more protected while being breast fed with a vaccine, getting his own memory B and T cells.

Yes vaccines can make you feel sick, that is how they work.  You are basically tricking your body into thinking it is sick, so its going to start up some of the defense mechanisms that we often associate with the "feeling" sick.  However, you aren't really "sick" so your body is going to resolve the issue pretty quickly (within a few days).

There is a difference between getting your information from some random article on the internet, and getting it from peer reviewed journals.  Neither are perfect, but I personally am going to trust the peer reviewed journal a shit ton more.

Lady tramp, I am not trying to say you are an idiot or a bad mother, you are just misinformed.  I know you are just trying to do what is best for your kid, and really care about taking care of him.  However, when taking care of your own child it can be hard to make logical decisions.  In your mind, the possibility of autism or other side effects (which haven't been proven) are probably very scary, much more so than his risk of contracting diseases that are not very prevalent right now.  However, if you look at the statistics, you are definitely putting him at more risk by not getting vaccinated, and not just him.

Yes if you teach him how to eat right and he exercises, he might be able to fight off some of the diseases himself, but other people could be at risk.  How would you feel if your son was carrying some disease, and during some family gathering he infected a relative's young baby, potentially creating a situation similar to how the 9 babies in the article I originally posted died.  Yes he is not guaranteed to ever come into contact with a disease, but there is a chance, and his chance is going to increase over time.

I know I probably am not going to convince you of anything, but I hope you will at least try to stay as informed as possible on the issue in the next few years, as I have a feeling more studies are going to come out showing the importance of vaccines.

most diseases arent going to be cured with a few herbs, they may help your
immune system fight off a few illnesses but the majority of the time it's
still just your body doing the work, no different than with most of the
crap doctards prescribe but a lot of the stuff the vaccinations fight pose
a real threat if they contract the disease and while it's a low risk
overall, why take the added risk... get the kid vaccinated at least the
ones required for public education

the risk of infection is growing, illegal immigrants dont go through
health screens, we've seen a rise in TB, and Chagas coming from mexico,
there's more than 70 other countries our illegals hail from, no telling
what can be coming in from elsewhere

He's not going to be involved with public education.

Why would I take him to a family gathering if he is sick?  Sure, maybe if he's feeling fine and something is incubating inside of him and I don't know that he's sick yet he would be around other people.  But, at this point whatever he has wouldn't really be all that catchable anyhow.  Usually you're at the highest risk of giving whatever you have to someone else if you have a fever.  Why would I be out and doing crap with my kid if he's running a fever?  I'd be home and taking care of him.  I don't keep going out and doing shit when he's not feeling well.

I think you've probably heard a lot of myths about how you can catch diseases from other people and maybe you need to try and educate yourself on the truth.

If you'd notice again, one of my biggest concerns is that he'll be allergic.  ALLERGIC to something that I put in his body, just like when I put new foods into his body.

And yes, I'm sure I'm misinformed by my doctor.  Who is the one who suggested that the most important vaccines are the Menningococcal and the dTap.  He said "yes, the Tdap is one of the ones that can transfer through breast milk."

And here's something for you from the CDC website:
Quote:
Meningococcal vaccines protect against most types of meningococcal disease, although they do not prevent all cases.

Why do you believe that children should be vaccinated during the first year of life, especially when they're already covered by passive immunity?
During the first year a child is developing at a very fast pace.  Why stunt this by injecting him with something when he has immunity right now anyway?

Here are some side effects that are listed on the informational sheet that you're supposed to be given AFTER giving your child the Dtap:
fever, redness, swelling, soreness, tenderness, fussiness, tiredness, poor appetite, vomiting, seizure, non-stop crying for 3 hours or more, high fever OVER 105, serious allergic reaction, long-term seizures, coma, lowered consciousness, permanent brain damage.

Some of these things are more rare.  Sure.  But if I already had a bad feeling about the damn thing to begin with and then my son starts having a seizure after getting this AS AN INFANT I'm sure I'd feel a lot worse then than you could ever try to make me feel for being a misinformed parent.

Here's something from the information sheet about the Menningococcal Vaccine:
A serious nervous system disorder called Guillain-Barré Syndrome (or GBS) has been reported among some people who received MCV4. This happens so rarely that it is currently not possible to tell if the vaccine might be a factor. Even if it is, the risk is very small.

My Uncle has this.  Who's to say that it's not something that my son could get?  This is something that's really rare and they don't know too much about why it happens.  How am I supposed to know if it's not something that was dormant in my grandparents and could have been passed on to me?

There are so many 'what-if's' to the situation and ultimately, if it's not something that I feel 100% sure about I'm not going to take the risk.  At least not until he's older and he can actually TELL me if he's feeling funny or whatever after having received a vaccination.  If ANYTHING I'm actually being more logical about this than a parent who's so controlled by FEAR that they'll do anything they're told is "safe and effective"

well... first, the unicorn lifts up it's majestic horn and touches the rainbow.  Skittles start falling down. And if you eat them, you get a disease.

also- since you guys seem so concerned that my child will give diseases to other children... shouldn't they be safe if they have vaccines?  And, why would I let my son play with an infant under 2 months, who hasn't received vaccinations yet, close enough to touch them, drool on them, or sneeze on them?  The babies in your article were under 3 months which means they probably got these things from an adult anyway, not another child.

God, even my dogs get their shots annually for fuck sake.

Heres a reality check.

Not getting your kids vaccinated massivly increases their chances of dying before they are 20.

Not getting your daughter vaccinated agenst rubella massivly increases her chances of having a severly disabled child if she were to catch it from a child during pregnancy.

Not getting your son or daughter vaccinated increases their chances of becoming sterile if they catch these diseses as an adult.

Heres the disadvantages of getting the shots, You kid is unwell for a day or two. May have a vaccination scar or two.

I spent time meticulously planning out my post, involving jennymccarthybodycount.com.

Then I realized I was doing nothing but wasting my time on someone that is not going to listen to anything I or anyone else says.

that's why I dont get sick, I dont trust skittles and I dont trust
unicorns, way to damn much fruitiness going on in that scenario

it's not the other children that we're referring to getting sick, it's
yours, if your kid comes into contact with a kid that's had something
it's possible to get it, that's how a lot of it spreads and it's not
typically going to happen at 2mos or a week, around 9-11 mos you be
working on having play dates, parks and such...

I dont see the epidemic that the article is claiming since there's so
few deaths and so few getting ill out of how many million, bit a lot of
the childhood 'diseases' are a serious problem
