Is there any love for Matisyahu?

Don't get me wrong, I know he is a practicing Hassidic jew and that he is now vehemently opposed to cannabis, or any drugs for that matter (despite his past in drug-fueled drum circles); I know that this may startle or repulse some.

But his Youth Dub album is one of my favourite ever while on weed ! I couldn't care less for the rest of his pop-ridden, synthesized edulcoration of reggae for high school rich kids, but Youth Dub seems so mind-blowing to me.

His habitual errors are entirely suppressed by Bill Laswell (the remixer), who decided to put emphasis on the "riddim" and musicians, which keeps a tight focus across the musical themes. The mixes range from good to excellent, but what really makes it stand out of Matisyahu's usual reggae/rock collection is its dedication to one idea : Psychedelia.

Oh, and by the way, it is in no way related to the more ambient dubplates of Laswell; they are more on the line of a King Tubby mix.

Well, wherever I go, I see so much hate for him; is there anyone here that listens to him while doped to oblivion or that listens to him at all ?

Im a fairly bigish fan of the man. I recon his current stance on drugs is kind of just to gain exceptance from religious listeners so it's sort of a selling out point (or buying in) but its sort of clever.

I have alot of respect for him, his music is very positive and inspiring to listen to.

I remember seeing him and his band in like 06 or 07 and they fucking rocked!

They jammed out a lot of songs and the entire show had a pretty dubby feel. 

Of course I was fuckin blazed :bigjoint:

I've heard from some people that his new album isn't too hot. 

Oh well, I'll always have respect for the vibe he (they) put out a few years back!!
