My favorite jazz artist has always been Ornette Coleman. Try the album "the shape of jazz to come" for his masterpiece. Or for his more experimental aspects, try Free Jazz.

Here's a couple of albums that you need to own or you will be committing a major offence:

Miles Davis: In A Silent Way
Thelonius Monk: Brilliant Corners, Monk's Music

Coltrane blows on both those Monk albums and they are fucking fantastic;..don't know if you know Monk but he's my favrouite jazz pianist. Well, just beats Evans.

Sorry, I'm still a bit drunk from last night!

Oh, my. I love Coltrane.

When he worked with Miles Davis on Kind of Blue ... All Blues.. oh mm!

I miss jazz. I have Kind of Blue but I loved Coltrane the most and need some more of his own pieces.

Ye, the four quintet albums are great... I love that tune In Your Own Sweet Way, the ballad-y one with the piano. Such an unusual opener, but what a tune!

My favorite album by Coltrane would have to be Ascension. It's his take on free jazz. Techincally I think its his best performance.

I'm pretty sure he recorded Ascension on acid.

According to legend, A Love Supreme would always be heard playing on Haight-Ashbury at night.
